Lets try and put this in some sort of perspective. I can only speak for the CM3 experience as I wont have a PC that will run CM4 for quite some time.
The likelyhood of these players being willing to sign at conference level is rare (I use the conference as the English Leagues are most commonly played). The number of non British ex-internationals willing to play at this level is practically non-existant.
Not many of these players are around in the first few seasons (certainly not in .68 anyway) Most of us would expect to be out of the conference by then with
most teams. When these players become available and willing to sign for our clubs we will find ourselves maybe in the 1st divison, but more likely in the second or third. It is still hard to get these players to sign, mostly because as soon as you start sniffing around them a club with a higher rep comes in, and they want a lot of money.
It is
quite easy to sign EPL & Div 1 journeymen.
In my experience, not many "good" players will sign for me when I am in the conference. Some journeymen will sign however. For example, in my current Chester game I signed two Birmingham players on Bosmans at the end of season 1 (one Jamaican international). However, I had been promoted to the football league, no one else came in for them and they have pitifully (
IMO) small release clauses. As I see it, they have signed for me so that they could keep themselves in the shop window until a "bigger" club comes along to pinch them.
If I get out of divison 3 this season I do not expect to be signing any major ex-internationals. I have some Bosmans lined up, but none have represented their country above U21 level. I expect to be in Div1 before realistically this happens (a long wait then

). This "realistically" is both in the game and in relation to real life. If I do (God forbid) get sacked and end up back i the conference I would be surprised to be signing any ex internationals.
However, we all accept that IRL this happens on occassions. They are very rarely players from outside of the country concerned (or else they are players who have had a long career in that country). I do not think that should the chance to sign one of the players occur, along accepted LLM guidelines, that we should be shooting ourselves in the foot by deliberately not going for them. However, 6 ex-internationals in a conference starting 11 would definitely be unrealistic.
I would be interested to know if the CM4 experience differs greatly from this.
