Often like to try a local team and played as Farnborough under EP2. EP3 arrives so I decide to start a more difficult game; as Woking are both local and have been relegated in every Conference game I have played in CM4 I duly take on the challenge: 500-1 for the championship.

The season goes fantastically well and I finish in the top ten, lose only £1k and win the FA Trophy (for which i earn the tag of magician and miracle worker). All this despite a rash of shoulder dislocations and breaks (had five players injured with it at one point), not sure if they are infectious or the assistant is secretly trying alternative training methods including martial arts.

With the squad improved and the wage bill reduced, hoping for an assault on the play offs this season.

How often do you get down Ninian? As much as I enjoyed Saturday can't help feeling we only have an evens chance of getting to the MilStad.

Oh yes, didn't Cardiff lose in the playoffs last year thanks to a big bad African's arse?

Stoke must be the first team to have had to win twice in Cardiff to win the playoffs.

EP3 - Finances have definately improved, not too many teams have entered administration in the first season. On the Woking front, they don't have a bad financial situation to start off with - £100k in the bank, no loans and a relatively small squad. Got rid of the high wage earners and ran the squad at about £4k under the wage budget (of 11.5k per week). The run in the Trophy also helped a bit. Still difficult to sell players for straight cash though.

SEASON 2

The bookmakers share my optimism and have slashed my odds for the title from 500/1 last season to 14/1 this, the fans and board still think we are in for a relegation fight. Early season meets expectation and Woking maintain a play-off spot well into the new year. Then as Southend fall away Woking take their place at the top and will not be denied despite some jitters.

Add a second successive FA trophy win (4-0 ove Gloucester City) and everyone is happy. By keeping a small squad (18 permanent and 4 loan) only lose £50k this season despite a four fold increase in ground maintenance (turning professional I think). The TV revenue for Div 3 soon cancels this out and the joys of the Football League await.

The bookmakes have yet to give their verdict but the fans and board expect respectability.
