Seemingly on FM08 there are only 1 or 2 player pictures for my team where as in 07 they were all there.

where do i put player photos to appear in the game?? I've looked at the editor but found no obvious way of getting player photos in.

You need to download them from somewhere like here:
Cut-Out Facepacks

Then make a 'graphics' folder in:
My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 08.
After you've done this put your downloads in there.
