I have had this problem in the past, but since 8.0.1 came out, it seems to be more frequent.
The problem is, is that when I manage away from England, I always find that I have a friendly on the first day of my game, this is generally when my squad are really unfit and morale is quite low, I like 10-14 days to sort my team out and get fitness up before playing friendlies, so this first day friendly sets me back, I tend to lose some players to injury due to the fitness, lose the game, again due to fitness and this has a knock on effect on team morale.
The other pre-set friendlies aren't a problem because I can cancel those, but the first day one cannot be cancelled for obvious reasons.
It's not the biggest of problems, its just a bit irritating.
I just wondered if there is a way to cancel pre-set friendlies before loading up the game akin to the trick that can be done to retain certain nations.
I suggest you to start game in league that starts earlier than the one you want to play. For English league, I usually start with German league which will give you roughly 2 weeks before any friendly matches occur.
You can pick any teams among playable leagues but you might want to start at the earliest start league so once you take control, you'd still have time to arrange things.
I think French and German leagues are the earliest (allow you to start in late June) while English league will be 1 week into July.
