I don't go by skills, I go by my assistant manager advice. When playing at home, I play my 2nd team, when playing away, I play my 1st team. In this way, all of my players will be match fit.

Is this really working for you?!? I try to play my best players at all times, unless they are injured, suspended or jaded... call me crazy.

I don't think you can shrink it down to 3 skills dude. Heading positioning, pace, tackling, marking, teamwork and positioning are all handy stats for a good centre back. After making sure you have tried to get a CB with these stats you should start to look at his height (the bigger the better in my opinion), agression, passing, anticipation (good if you're going to try to play the opposition offside) and bravery! Theres probably more depending on the tactics you use. Obviously what league you're playing in is going to influence the kind of CB you can get but if you can get the first few its a start!
PS I think you might be in the wrong forum with this thread. Players guide might have been your best bet!
I think the 3 most important skills for any position other than GK are pace, strength and decisions. I make sure that anyone in my team has these 3 at 13+ at a minimu, below that is a no no
Not sure i can narrow it down to 3 for each position, so I'll do the top 5 things I look for - although it's partly dependant on what kind of tactic you use.
Did these fairly quickly, very hard to narrow ti down to 5 things, i generally make sure all players have a good workrate and look for fairly good teamworking also.

I often end up with the same players no matter where I play, which is a bit annoying. Disregarding these borring, but in my oppinion obvious requirements for any player, I look for Professionalisme and consistency in the scout reports, and:
