My 4-1-3-2. Help with improving please, without major surgery.
After many weeks of searching and researching the forums, manual and Marc Vaughans guide, I have settled on this formation and tactic, which is not any worldbeater, by the way.

The R,L and CMs all have first stage farrows. If I think that I am playing a poor team, I sometimes put farrows on the R&L defenders.
My player instructions are from the drop down in game instructions but with defensive adjustments in the back four, to make them defend more. At present I am 3rd in the Championship with Hull City. My defence is fairly sound at home but not so sound away. My away formation is that I bring inside the R & L midfielders and have no arrows at all on any player.
I try to adopt a counter attacking philosophy but if I concede early on I usually lose the game. My three defeats have all been away from home. I hope that this is enough to go on to offer some useful assistance. I would say though, that I do want to retain the 4-1-3-2 formation. Kind regards to all. P.S. I am nine games into season one.

First of all, I am by no means a tactical genius (far from it), but I do have some suggestions for your tactic away from home:
Change your passing to direct
Change your tempo to about 14
Change your width to about 9
Play with Counter Attack
I think this would already help a great deal. Only thing left to change is the Defensive Line (in combination with the Closing Down), because 12 seems awfully high for away games. However, I'm REALLY no expert at these particular two sliders, so I will give no comments on this (yet). Besides, I can also imagine that a high defensive line during away games is possible, since sides who are playing at home, won't play on the Counter Attack frequently, so you won't have to worry about balls being played over your defense... But like I said, I'm no expert.
