| If thats true, why do Man Utd, Lyon and Barca play with playmakers? And Real when they had Zidane, now I don't know how they play. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Do they? Does all Man Utd's passing go through Rooney, all Lyon's through Juninho and all Barca's through Ronaldinho?
Or are they just the stand-out players in very good teams?
There is a difference between a playmaker (i.e. Pirlo for the Italians during the World Cup, which in fairness DID work) and a very creative player.

I recommend to link tempo to passing. I have been doing that and have been winning ever since. I never go below first notch of slow and never go over first notch of quick. The same goes for passing never go below 5 and never over 11.

Let me explain more. Many people in this forum talk about tactics and disrregard the AI changes. The AI changes his set up throu out the match to counter your tactics. Haven't you noticed how you are dominating the match and once you score the AI team will trun the game upside down? . I learned that by watching my ass man taking on friendlies. First, the AI never uses mentality, except when counter attacking, it will have one FC on attacking mentality otherwise never. The AI attack and defend by using FWR and formations. you can tell if he is attacking by looking at his formation and watching his fullbacks. If they are making FWRs, that means he is attacking and you should adapt a more direct and quick tempo, as I said before no less than 5 and no morethan 11. Now I will tell you what I have been doing to deal with the AI and I have been very succesfull, of course there is luck and wrong team talks, but other wise it worked like a charm with Liverpool and Ternana. I play 442 with arrows for the wingers. As for foward runs GK mix, DCs mix, FBs either none or always, MR/L always, MCs one always and one mix, FCs mix. Crossing, Winger and fullbacks always the rest mix. The rest of instructions depends on the player, BUT never give them none, if a player isn't good at dribilling give him mix. As for team ins, Ment normal, Cre fre normal, closing down nrmal, timewasting depends on the result, and DL also normal. Tempo and passing I start the match with normal and FBs no FWRs-it 's important to note that never ever give FBs FWRs if you are not playing slow tempo, cause it will kill with counter attack- if the opp is defending I gow slow and short and FBs FWRs, if you score, go quicker and so on. but always remmeber to change your tempo and passing throu out the match, again within the limit I said, from 5 to 11. Remember any extreme instructions will work for a while but it is easy to figure ou by the AI.

Just wanted to react on the little discussion in this topic about using or not using a playmaker.
I think this discussion is irrelevant as there's the major difference that this is just a simulation game and can't really be compared with real life football. As I said this game tries to approach the real life football, but can not be compared at the same level.
I personally think that almost every team plays with some sort of playmaker. Every good team has to have an (preferrably) experienced player in the centre of the midfield who dictates the play. Whether to play I higher or lower tempo depending on what the game needs. To make strategic foul to slow the game down or to add some fuel to the fire. I'll use examples to clarify this up when looking at some topclass teams. Juninho from Lyon was mentioned. He's an attacking player but the whole build-up of any attack goes by him. He's creative brain of this team. Just looking at how many passes he makes in a game, making clear he's the centre-point in their play.
Barcelona for instance have players like Deco and more importantly Xavi. Their stamina and also vision makes those two the true playmakers.
They once did a test on Deco, and the result was he would run the most miles in the team, thought the Portugal team. He almost doubled the distance that Figo walked during a game.
Looking at Chelsea, true, it's a little harder who dictates the play. But every time Makelele plays he's the glue between defense and midfield and he can choose to quickly look for a creative forward or to keep possession. Ballack has that ability too..
So in conclusion it's really up to you if you are to play with a playmaker. I did this with Lyon in the game once and he was scoring straight 8's or 9's and having more than 100 passes per match (especcialy home games of course). And comparing the game with real life is not clarifying tactical problems of the game. Is it as a guidance rather than the truth..

The most usefull thing about the playmaker role, is that it can save gifted players with low work rate.
That is what I use him for. But to be honest it is only if I inherited a player like that, cause I rarely sign them.
