Default Nott'm Forest - £28 M Tfr Budget

I'm now at the start of the 3rd season and have just won promotion to the Premier League while also winning the league cup, Forest back in Europe! Should help in attracting players to the club.

I was expecting to be given a small transfer kitty and a season struggling to avoid relegation but the board out of nowhere has given me £28m! and now challenging for mid table obscurity

So who shall I buy? thats the big question. So far i've bid for Jimmy Briand £7.5m(transfer listed), Ever Banega £4.0m and Cahais £3.5m and all bids accepted. Klass-Jan Huntelaar is also transfer listed but for £11.5m, is he worth a gamble?

Any suggestions welcome and bear in mind that I need players all over the park!!

I literally need a player for each position! Here's my team at the moment (with no loanees):-

GK Graeme Smith
DL Lazlo Sepsi / Julian Bennett
DC Brian Mclean / Wes Morgan / Rafael Forster
DR Ibrahim Tall / Paul Quinn
DM Richard Hughes / Sammy Clingan
MR Arron Davies / Lewis McGugan
ML Chris Cohen / Kris Commons
AM Lauri Dalla Valle / Reimond Manco
ST Nathan Tyson / Jermaine Beckford / Charles-Andre Doudin

Think my weak points are GK, CB, all of the midfield and especially upfront! Tried to keep a small squad and keep the wages down which I managed and flood it with loan signings last year. Possibly the same again if certain players won't move on a transfer.

Collins John was last years top scorer with 31 goals so was thinking purchasing him? Kevin-Prince Boateng did ok but nothing great so wont get him again-like to get Carlos Vela but no chance really. Lee Martin did well for me but think the Championship is his level, unless someone tells me otherwise. Last season long loan was Matthew Connolly who averaged over 7 for the season and scored alot of goals but staff and fans never rated him! Did also manage to loan Nicklas Bendtner for 3 months but did absolutely nothing for me and a complete disappointment. So many people rave about him (granted mainly gooners fans) but I won't get him again!

So any advice would be helpful

the only player from ur team tht i wud keep wud be sepsi and hes not really good enough, definatley bring in those 3 braind is awesom id try loan in another striker id try get balotelli from inter he single handly kept my saints team up in my first season in the prem. also have alook around resevres there usually one player you can bring in to improve ur squad.

gk-ochoa sumtimes he goes for under 5mil issakson from man city will cost 5mil ish aswell if city have bought a new keeper.
def-garry bocaly is worth a look and costs under 2mil and after a season in the prem all the big boys will want him for around 10mil can play rb and cb.
mid-tojre if hes not been bought,

Had a look at Balotelli and looks great - will give him a chance to play for the mighty tricky trees

Isaakson's moved already as i tried to get him last year - apparently didn't want to play for the illustrious forest - his loss

Bocaly's going on a free at the moment and was going to offer him a contract untill scouts said he wasn't worthwhile but i'll go for him now - hey what do the scouts know anyway!

Torje I just missed out on. Reading bought him for £3.3m before I had my transfer budget and had £48k remaining of last years budget. Annoying.

Same happened with Sotiris Ninis as he was purchased for £3.5m.

But thanks for your help Macsoz

Ive put the players youve made bid for in, so its easier to judge who you nneed.

GK - If Enyeama hasnt moved from Tel-Aviv, then go for him, hes great! (£1.5mil)
DL - Could try Armand Traore on loan from Arsenal (£0)
DR - Justin Hoyte, normally back up and/or transfer listed at Arsenal
(£2.5mil)
DC - Danny Shittu from Watford, great tall, strong, commanding CB. (£1mil)
DM - With Banega, you should be OK
MR - Thinking Yoann Gouffran, may be gone by now though and too expensive
ML - Not really sure
AMC - Lulinha, hes immence (£3mil) and/or Marko Marin (£1mil)
ST - Mauro Zarate was Prem top scorer 1 st season for me at Arsenal, he woul be immence (£3mil)

These players would be good wnough too keep you mid table, perhaps top half.

Hmmmm! Premier League thrid season hey? A good start to life at the CIty Ground!

I'm a lover of all things South American myself. Lenny is well worth a look on the right wing. his crossing isn't superb, but his pace and skill on the ball allow him countless opportunities to get it right during a game, and he invaribly does!

Even better is if you have Alen Kardec getting on the end of them. Has proved a very useful purchase for my Sunderland side!

Also try Maldonada (DMC). This Chilean first came to my attention a couple of versions back. Still performs very well if signed, and tends to score a decent ratio considering his position, and jumps at the chance of Premiership football.

WIll be interesting to see what others reckon (I tend not to bother reading too many threads). Good luck chunkylover!

what did you promise the board you would do to get that kind of money? I also brought Forest to the EPL, also qualified for Europe even though I lost to Arsenal in the FA cup, but could "only" get €35 million despite promising them a safe mid table position (which is bloody hard with the squad I've got). So at the current rate around £22mil.

Anyway, i signed Zarate (4mil), Le Tallec (free), Ca, Distel Zola, Acapandie, Kostadinov, Scribe, Abenzoar, El Mourabet, Schwechlen. These are mostly French young players but with a great future. I find it hard in my first season in the EPL but am 12th with 18 matches gone so am not doing too badly.

To be realistic, with players like Bennett, Clingan, McGugan and Tyson you will not go far in Europe or the EPL. These are players you should look to sell and generate more revenue. I got rid of them at the end of season 2 as they were finding it difficult in the championship. You get fairly good money for them too.

Commons I sold in the first season January transfer window as I did not want to pay him the ridiculous amount of money he wanted for a new contract! I got Van de Wal the left midfielder from Holland and he was doing a good job for me.

Good luck to stay up!

I'm in the same position myself, just at the start of the third season, making signings to keep me up this year. I was also given a similar budget, 24m I think.
I just nabbed this Henry Saivet fella that I hear a lot about for 7.5m.

Saivet gets really good but he is still only 17 (if my memory serves me right, as I'm at work) and is not yet a great match winner. He looks however better in this version than in fm07 where he ended up nearly scoring 1 to 2 goals per game for my France national team, going through all records in the process... Fantastic player!
