Could happen for a few reasons. Either someone played particularly poorly and you didnt discipline. I usually make it a point that whenever some gets a 6 or below rating, after the match I see if the option to discpline them is available. If it is, I generally warn them for a rating 6. If they get 5, I warn them first time and then fine them one weeks wages from then on. And if they get 4, its a straight fine. Never had a 3 by anyone so dont really know what I'd do there.
Other reason could be that someone has gotten dismissed (a straight red or even two yellows) and you havent reprimanded them. If its a straight red, I usually fine them one weeks wages straight up and then two weeks wages every other time they do it. If its two yellows, I warn them atleast a couple of times before handing out a fine.
They are the only two reasons I've seen so far which can cause that concern in a player. Also, you must make sure that you deal with a player who's got a straight red because if you dont, sometimes your players start disliking him. Especially if its a nasty foul that the player committed.
but if I fined a player for a red ... let's say ... with a warning, and the player thinks the warning is harsh, then 4-5 players from my team are starting to think that I`m not correct with that player ... :-w
damn, probabily I made some Media Comments, about a player who played at my team and now it's at another. he played against me and in the media, at the "Gilardino faces his former club" news, I said that he can't ever be a dangerous player for me ... maybe that's the reason why Zambrotta is worried about my lack of managerial discipline ...
As far as I know, commenting on anything to the media doesnt get a "lack of managerial discipline" comment from players. All it does is probably upset them a little like "its sure his manager should be praising other teams" etc. Managerial discpline is only when you fail to control your own players.
As for your team-members thinking that you dealt with your player too harshly, that because you probably WERE too harsh on him. You have to assess the kind of foul he made and judge what kind of punishment to hand out. See what your assman says after the game when you are asked whether you want to appeal the red card or not. If he says "was dismissed for a cynical foul" then give him a 1 week wage fine. If it was professional foul, then I usually give a warning first time and then start handing out fines. If the assman doesnt say anything then check the match report and see what kind of foul he was dismissed for. If it is for (say) a two-footed challenge or an elbow to the face, then slap him with the wage fine. You just have to evaluate how to handle it.
