I will be about $2 Million in debt by the end of this season (my third). I am going to meet board expectations for performance (safe mid-table), and my wage bill is on budget. Right now they are "satisfied" with the financial situation, but I am wondering at what point will I be in danger of the board calling in the dreaded receivers?

There is no way of telling. You could end up a lot more in debt that that.

In real life, when your assets are outweighed by your debts you are insolvent and should go into receivership. How the game decides this, however, I'm not sure as the club's total assets aren't given anywhere as far as I know...

Players are employees, not assets, and aren't included in the club's accounts.

Yes, but they cannot be included in the assets/debts calculation that determines whether a club is insolvent. If a club is insolvent, whatever paper 'value' a player has goes out of the window anyway. Their contracts can even be torn up by the Administrators...
