Mind the player naming, the rule is none.

Fact is you've two choices when looking for youth players in CM4.
1) Use the young guys that come up through your youth system
2) Do what the rest of us do and stick with 01/02 until SI get CM4 right.

Staff are a different proposition.

As you've mentioned there's no Staff scouting, therefore it's ok to use a staff search.

The only LLM "proviso" is that you're realistic about it, i.e watch out for the Nationality. A Portuguese Club may have a Brazilian Scout, but it's unlikely a Poofland Lower League Club would.

Reputation doesn't matter much as a big name will generally tell you where to get off.

only way I've found to sign young players for free (admitedly it won't help you first season) is to send my scout on a few youth scouts during the season save the scout results and put the more promising youngsters he finds on my shortlist.

Come june I then find I now have several promising youngsters (usually 16 -18 years old) who have been freed by there higher division clubs youth teams on my shortlist.

I quite like CM4 now although first season is usually a write off as I end up playing with just my original squad . However from the second season on I have no problem finding Free transfers due to the results from my previous scouting mission's

I'm not playing CM4 yet as I can't be arsed to buy it and was quite late to 01/02 so am still exploring that. But the situation as described doesn't sound too unrealistic. New young manager takes over his first job - he's not going to have a large range of contacts/big rep to attract quality players of any age. Surely it is only right that the first season is one of looking at the squad that you inherited and building up a knowledge of possible future targets?
