An about the 3D match engine in CM08. Surely no one with any knowledge of tactics can fall for that rubbish? It's a novelty and you'll soon realize that your tactics don't actually make a blind bit of difference in CM08. But the highlights and the goals seem to be all very similar, as if it's just scripted sequences playing out. It's a far cry from the match engine of FM, from a tactical standpoint anyway.

But that's nothing compared with the 3D match engine of Fifa. Oh boy, what a crock of...you get the idea.

Really at the end of the day FM is what separates the men from the boys. FM is for proper football fans who want in depth football management. We enjoy the 2D pitch due to it's simplicity and easy of use to identify where players are (managers look at player positions, they don't just watch the ball), and if your tactics are working right.

3D is aimed at more casual players with a tendency to be superficial. It's made for the kind of person that would choose a retarded cute blonde girl over an interesting and witty slightly chubby student girl. Basically anyone who takes looks over substance.

I have played the CM demo, my impressions:

Usability and interface are poor compared to FM;

Mini-3D Match engine appearance is better than FM 's 2D engine. You can see clearly the height of the shot, the through pass, the heading extra, much more refreshing and realistic than 2D.;

Prozone analysis is a winner. It is an analytical tool used by real life clubs/managers and it's just great. It analysis your previous match in great details and you can find out exactly the reason for your domination/scores or failure. You can see detailed reasons for how the goals were scored/conceded. You can know which player performed well doing which specific type of task, e.g. "Drogba showed his ability in close range shots". I must say this is the one and only aspect of CM that is far better than FM.

Tactics, media and data research wise FM is still superior.

For me CM's engine look+prozone analysis combined with FM's everything else would make a perfect football management game.

CM doesn't get slower simply because it's incredibly shallow when compared to FM.

It's a shame that their Prozone analysis doesn't really work very well.

Prozone itself is a complete overkill for a management sim/game. The Prozone Analyser Assistant is a great idea, but it's implemented very badly in CM.

Would be a great addition to FM, but would need a hell of a lot more work than BGS put into it.

+ Add an extra sprinkling of depth to the media/player interaction, and we'd have one hell of a game.

They have that in FM, under the search column

I'm not sure I understand the need for Prozone. Real football managers use it because it gives them reams of stats on how their team has worked during the game. But we get them anyway don't we. Passes completed % and so on. And we get to watch the game from 100 yards up in the air over the centre circle. Not sure what Prozone would bring to the party.

I think people like prozone because it tells you what you want without you having to find out yourself, look through highlights for hours etc.

I must say when I used it in the CM07 demo, it was soo confusing, I didnt know where to start! And the interface doesnt help either...
