Ive said it a million times before that Pele was a very over-rated footballer and he is only more famous than Leonidas, Rivelino, Jarzinho, Tostao, Garrincha, Zico (miles better players than Pele) because of his diplomatic skills.
Anyway I would like to add that Pele might be the king of football to all the diplomats in football but the real king will be Wayne Rooney. Right now the real world champion (Rooney) is still in development into being the greatest ever footballer. You see comparing Pele to Rooney is like comparing horse manure to ice-cream. In the very near future he will be the greatest. If you want to compare compare Pele to this greatest ever then fine... we'll see... lets compare Pele to WAYNE ROONEY after 2010.
Pele was a good player that was lucky enough to play in three GREAT Brazilian national teams, he gets the credit because he was in all three, whereas the likes of Gharincha and Carlos Alberto are dismissed in the second tier of greats when perhaps they were actually better players.
Pele's faults were that we can never truly know how great a player he was because he never played in competitive club competition. He never played in Europe unlike true greats in my opinion such as Eusabio, Puskas, Best, Maradona, Platini etc.
That is why in my opinion he can never be considered the greatest, whereas Wayne Rooney at the age of 22 has reached the champions league semi final and won his national league, which in all fairness is not that big of a deal these days.
