Unfortunately, that is a bit like saying "How come my car doesn't start, it's got oil in it?"
A little more information would be helpful.
What processor is in the laptop?
How much space is on your hard drive?
How fast is the hard drive?
Exactly how much memory has the laptop got and what type is it?
How many programs/background processes are you running whilst loading the data (i.e. are you playing music or downloading from the internet at the same time as loading the editor data?)
There are a lot of reasons why a system would take some time to load data and in my experience laptops are the worst things you can use for this kind of memory-hungry process.
My editor is slow???
