Problems during a game: My players fall apart after scoring
Hi all,
I do read this forum alot but do not post much, in fact this is my first.
I am having some problems recently with my players just falling apart after scoring a goal. I am currently carshalton, a newly promoted team, and am in my fifth season, and my thrid in division three.
My team always starts a game off brilliantly, usually scoring a goal within the first half an hour, but then they seem to just do nothing. they dont follow tactics, they cant tackle, and if they are lucky enough to get to half time without conceding it doesnt take long after the start of the second half to concede.
I play a basic 4-4-2 which i have found quite successful but something is wrong recently. No matter what changes i make at half time or near the end (whether its a ST off and DMC on or setting the team more defensive, or leaving everything the same) the same happens every game, i either draw 1-1 or lose 2-1, after going 1-0 up.
I dont really understand what the matter is, is this a training issue, are my players too tired. Morale within the players is not bad, its average, some players a good or very good.
It seems weird that this only happens after i have scored a goal.
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance

i got a felling your useing to much creative freedom for to many of your plays also sounds like your playing to wide or closing down to much.Try having a width of 4 passing of 4 tempo 4 or up to you no high that last setting of normal tempo only tells your team how fast to move the ball round the pitch.
Also mentality make shore your plays are close together so if you wonna play defensive keepers ment.1 CB2-3 DM3-4 FB4-5 ect if you wonna play attacking keepers ment 12 CB 13-14 ect. never go above two ment between players you with leave to many gaps.
I hope it helps good luck mate

if you dont want to change things in your formation you can always give the team a rollicking at half time!!
i usually pick my team talks on how good the performance is not the scoreline!
i used to have this problem a lot and when your always scoring first its seems silly to point at your formation as to why your failing but its usually the players not adhering to your instructions like you said thats causing the lack of form!
so if like you said they go to sleep after scoring, give them what for at half time and they usually roll their socks up and score within the first 5 mins of the 2nd half!
