I've tried various tactics on here, but I just couldn't get any consistency, but I could see that the results with 4-1-3-2 were better than with other formations I'd been trying.
So I tinkered a bit and came up with:
--------GK--------
RB----CB---CB----LB
-------DCM--------
----CM-----CM----
--CF---CF----CF--
The left and right CFs have sarrows to push them wide a little (helpful, but not vital, to have pace and crossing ability as well as finishing/composure). Also useful to have reasonable heading ability for flick-ons.
Team instructions:
All normal (10) other than:
Passing style: Direct, bout 14 or 15.
Closing down: Often-ish, I tinker with it between 12-13.
Width: 8
I also focus passing "down the middle" and find I concede less goals with "man marking".
With regards player instructions, I tend to tailor them to the individual rather than make them fit into my system.
I finished in the play-offs with Worcester and after 21 games of the following season I sit in 1st place (W16 D3 L2). I've scored 40+ goals (helped by an 8-0 away victory over Leigh RMI) and only conceeded 11.
I'd be grateful if a few people could try it and let me know if it works for them. I've got some good players for the division I'm in (Ricky Sappleton, Ben Wilkinson, Luke Joyce, Bobby Hassell, Chris Cornes), so it could be that my players are compensating for a ropey tactic.
I will try and upload screenshots and the tactic when at home tonight. I've never done it before.
No, not really so far. I thought I would, but I haven't been. I've got 3 good players in midfield (Luke Joyce, Ben Harding, Adam Chambers and occasionally Michael Pook). Statistically they are better than most of the opposition midfields they come up against, so obviously that will help.
I haven't found it to be a goal frenzy formation I must be honest. As I said in the current season I've scored 40+ goals in 21 games (can't remember exact figure sat here at work), but when you consider 8 of those came in one freakish game, it's not even 2 goals a game.
It varies, but almost always more than the opposition. I'd say on average we'll have 10 shots on goal in a game.
Usually have around 50-55% of possession as well.
Of the two games I've lost this season, one of the defeats was completely against the run of play, the other we got completely mauled possession and chance wise.
This seems like a good tactic, i put it into use towards the end of the league one season with Accrington and my poor results instantly improved and lifted me up into 14th from 20th: 6 wins 1 draw. i did alter the centre halfs though, i changed their mentality from 'team' to 'defensive' and also reduced their creativity to almost nothing. very solid, seems to concede very little, and while its not a goal fest you do seem to create enough chances to deserve the 1-0 or 2-0 victories that it seems to bring about.
