It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

But IRL you can train composure imo
As well as agression . Anyway, there is something messy about training categories. For example, why crossing belongs to set pieces, not to attaking? Why conenctration is in defending category only? How come we may train creativity (god's gift I believe) but cannot train bravery (difficult, yeah, but possible to improve through training)?

I know at Sheff Utd's training ground they practise crossing with set pieces. So I presume this is common.

Id say because its vital and probably the most important stat a defender as, for me atleast. If a defender switches off for a second its costly, if someone higher up the pich switches off it doesn't normall matter too much as the defence should cover.

I think its very easy to get into pure semantics e.g. well I think crossing might be more suited to attacking rather than set pieces etc....but its really a bit nonsensical. I might think that basically taking a corner or a free kick from any sort of wide area is the exact skill of crossing, so it should be trained in set pieces (this is my opinion by the way). But at the end of the day as long as its in a logical training category then I don't see the point in debating it ad nausiam.

You could also argue for a completely knew slider for the training of the 'mental attributes'. This could work in that in the main mental attributes are inherent in a player such as bravery (John Terry) or concentration (lack of - Titus Bramble...ahem) so that mainly they don't need to be trained in them, and that well for the players that lack in one of those areas, that's the choice you make when choosing your playing staff. However, I think I'd like to see mental attributes being 80% inherent, leaving a small room for some training in them which would take into account the common example of e.g. a Premiership manager bringing in a technically brilliant player from on the continent, and slowly (perhaps over 12 months or even 18 months) add some steel to him to allow him to then make the most of himself in the Premiership. The first name that comes to mind here is Mikel Arteta and David Moyes but there are countless others. Perhaps this is an option....perhaps not.

Re concentration - yes Cleon, the endgame example of this being the GK.

All good points. Yet, how the game is organized now is a little bit inconvinient. Concentration is even more vital for GK, but he does not need marking and tackling. Crossing obviously related to set pieces (though crossing - passing relationship is even more obvious), but I am not sure that by putiing FB on relatively high set pieces training schedule he will improve crossing rather than penalties or free kicks, which I don't care about.

good discussion...and I don't want to disturb you guys but if you ask me the whole training sector is inconvinient. probably worst of them all. where is team-tactical training, preparatinon for next match. all we have now is player development system. anyway I hope SI have some plans on this metter.

I see composure as the ability to think clearly when under pressure and being calm and confident that they'll make the right decision, as opposed to panicing. Good composure needs to be coupled with good decisions. In Allen Wade's 'Positional Play: Back Defenders' he describes composure being a critical attribute for defenders.

I agree though that putting composure in with the Shooting training schedule doesn't make sense, it be much better in with tactics because it's something both striker, defenders and goalkeepers need.
