Default FM 2007 - West Ham - The Hammers

West Ham United F.C. is a football club based in Upton Park, Newham, East London and play their home matches at The Boleyn Ground (official name of Upton Park). They are currently in the English Premier League.

The team enjoyed 10 consecutive top flight seasons from 1993 to 2003 prior to relegation to The Championship. They have won the FA Cup three times: in 1964, 1975 and 1980, and also captured the now defunct Cup Winners Cup in 1965, but have never won the League Championship. The club returned to the Premier League in 2005 and achieved a 9th place finish. In addition the club progressed through to the FA Cup Final for the first time in twenty-six years where they lost on penalties to Liverpool after a 3-3 draw.

On the transfer deadline day for the new season, 31 August, West Ham seemed to have surprised world football when speculation mounted that two of the most promising young footballers in the world would be joining on permanent move. Carlos Tévez announced on his website that he and Javier Mascherano would be joining West Ham from Brazilian club Corinthians. West Ham confirmed shortly afterwards that not only had they signed the two Argentineans, but that they had signed on permanent deals. West Ham had to beat off competition from the likes of Arsenal and major European clubs to sign the two young Argentineans.

My assessment:

If you want to take over a mid-table team in England with a lot of promising youngsters then West Ham is the team for you. Of course they have Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez, but also, Jonathan Spector, Anton Ferdinand, Mark Noble, and Nigel Reo-Coker are young and talented guys. You don’t have a lot of money in the start, but West Ham is a target for takeover in the game, money might come faster than you think.

My suggestion for a first eleven will be:

Carroll

Pantsil     Ferdinand     Collins/Gabbidon    Konchesky

Benayoun    Reo-Coker    Mascherano     Etherington

Tevez    Ashton

This is a team that will produce some good displays in the premier league. I think their best upfront and in the central midfield. In these positions we have four excellent young players that hopefully will continue to grow in many years. Also Pantsil has surprised me; he’s actually my second best player (Just behind Reo-Coker). With Ferdinand as a wonderkid in defence the defence should be pretty tight.

I hope everyone that plays as West Ham starts to write in this thread, all of you others that are wondering which team you should be, the search is over!

Nice formation, hows it working for you? Is really Mears better on the right than Pantsil for you. On my game its a big difference between those two players.

I`m soon reaching last days of January on my first season so I will come with mye first update pretty soon

Great opening post

I for one will be starting a Hammers' game for three reasons:

1) Tevez and Mascherano.
2) I've always had a soft spot for 'em.
3) My brother plays for 'em.

I'll be starting a Hammers game too

They just got taken over by a consortium on my game, seems interesting and there could be a lot of money thrown around

im in november now with West Ham
some of the info u mentioned earlier is different to my game like estimated value as well as average age 34 :S - mine is 26.

similarly to the demo i started really well (4th after 5 games) then i just couldnt win

i am now in novemeber and sitting 15th in the league so im finding life tought - however there is talk of a board takeover so more transfer funds hopefully

i bought vanden borre back in july and im finding hes playing much better than pantsil and mears

Just finished my first season in charge of The Hammers. Unfortunatly the proposed takeover eventually had the plug pulled due to lack of cash.

Only brought in 3 players,

Penbe Ergun of Galatasaray for 170k.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...penbeergun.jpg

Marcin Baszczynski of Wisla for 1.3m.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...aszczynski.jpg

Brought this pair in to add some experience to the defence, and in Ergun's case he could also play in midfield.
Also brought in Arsenal Goalie Manuel Almunia on loan for 6months because of the injuries to Green and Carroll.
Decided Harwood wasnt needed so hes off to West Brom for 4million when the window reopens.

My team rotated alot due to injuries and strikers not scoring, namely Tevez (who along with Mascherano didnt settle until i gave them loads of games and new contracts).

The highlight of the season was making the FA Cup and Euro Cup finals, which we lost, which wasnt suprising given our opponents.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...endresults.jpg

In the end 7th place was where we finished in the league which i think was a good result for the team.

Hopefuly both the argies will have settled and start working wonders for the club next season!

Nice to see people starting with the mighty Hammers

January first season
I’ve now arrived into the last of January in my first season. I’m currently lying safe in 8th position. I’m through from the group stage of the EURO cup, lost in the semi-final in the league cup to Chelsea.

I’ve started of in August with only two buys. I wanted to test the strength of my original squad so I only bought Sherman Andres Cardenas and Vincent Enyeama. Enyeama is my third keeper so he’s not getting any caps, Cardenas seems like a good prospect and I’m expecting a lot from him in the future. I sold Shaun Newton and Carlton Cole for at total of £2, 4 mill.

In January I signed an old veteran from Inter, Alvaro Recoba for £1, 1 mill. I’ve gotten Mark Noble back from loan so I’ve sold Hayden Mullins to Reading for £2, 5 mill. I’ve also got a nice surprise when Shaun Wright Phillips agreed to go on a loan to me.

I’m quit happy with the team I have now, my biggest problem is Carlos Tevez that want’s to a bigger club, I already declined one transfer request from him. I expect to sell him in the summer, it’s a shame but when a player want’s to go he can go.

So far it hasn’t been any speculations about a takeover. I’ve making good money and almost turning £10 mill in bank balance.

Maybe we should try to avoid putting big pictures directly in the thread, it`s harder to read when half the page is filled with pictures
