Official Sheffield Wednesday Thread - Hillsborough, home of the blue and white wizards
Sheffield Wednesday Football Club (abbreviated as SWFC, nicknamed The Owls) is one of the oldest football clubs in England and play in The Football League. Based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Wednesday's chief rivals are Sheffield United F.C., with whom they play in the Steel City Derby.
The Owls have won four league titles, three FA Cups and one League Cup, but their League Cup triumph in 1991 is their only major trophy since World War II. They did reach both domestic cup finals in 1993, but lost 2-1 to Arsenal each time. Overall, they are the most successful Yorkshire side.
Sheffield Wednesday are in the Football League Championship. Home games are played at Hillsborough Stadium, which had staged numerous FA Cup semi-finals prior to the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, which killed 96 Liverpool fans.

OK just started my weegie update game with the mighty Owls. Will let you kno how it goes, normally struggle in the first season but notice this update has the "bougherra 2mil" to spend. Meaning promotion 1st time round will be my aim. Vety thin squad at first look and will make a left back, centre half, centre midfield, and striker my priorities. Wish me luck an up the Owls!!

Well i've started a game with the january transfer market update. The starting transfer budget is not ideal, with only £100k to spend and I used that on compensation for Lauri Dalle Valle. I've brought in a number of players on loan (2 extra goalkeepers). My squad is:
GK: Ben Alnwick (loan from Tottenham)
DR: Frank Simek
DL: John Hills
DC: Tommy Spurr
DC: Graham Coughlan
MR: Jermaine Johnson
ML: Chris Brunt
MC: Glenn Whelan
MC: Yoann Folly
ST: Tudgay/Holsen
ST: Moireira/MacLean

well, i've made it to the start of the championship season. friendlies were pretty encouraging by and large, including a pleasing 2-2 draw at home to Osasuna in my last game.
| 26.7.2006 | Clarkson, David | Motherwell | £220K |
| | Total | | £900K |
the only departure so far is Sean Mcallister on a season long loan to Huddersfield, my feeder club. i have also secured an agreement with Aston Villa, and hope to take advantage of any youngsters they may send.
on the loans front, i only have Wheater in on loan from Middlesborough for a few months.
played a few games last night, and things not going quite to plan....
lost (h) to plymouth 2 - 1 (Larsen)
lost (a) to preston 2 - 0
drew (h) to WBA 0 - 0
drew (a) to Ipswich 2 - 2 (Jeffers 2)
admittedly, the results against WBA and Ipswich i was quite pleased with (although were winning 2-0 against ipswich at half time ), i am still disappointed not to have won as yet. the main problem is that we're creating the chances, but just not putting them away (exactly like real life!!)
have added the following to the squad:
Marcus Williams - Scunthorpe - £240k approx
Darius Henderson - Watford - £325k
feel that Darius might be the target-man we need to help score the goals - we shall see.
