Zapata is a great choice. If you can get him then do so. Quality defender.

If cash is not a problem see how much you can get Kolo Toure for. He'll be great although he's not 25 like you want.

You could look at Felipe (Udinese), Djourou (Arsenal), Albiol (Valencia), Pepe (R.Madrid), Breno, Samba, Crisctio, Chiellini etc. Give Jonathan Evans a run in the team he'll come good eventually. And you best get some young CB's into your team so you can groom them for the future.

you should always have 2 teams one full of younsters and one of your first team players so whenever you get a problem like this you dont need to buy anyone you just have someone just on the edge between kids and 1st team then you can bring them in and after a few games they will be brilliant!

Yea i've got a team of youngsters but most are on loan now. They should be ready next season/2 seasons time and i'll probably get rid of Rio by then. I had high expectations for Cathcart but at 22 now he just doesn't seem to be progressing and i've got a great youth training schedule with top coaches. He's at celtic now so maybe it will do him good.

I've made offerers for Breno, Zapata so waiting to hear back now. I don't want anyone too soon cause they just won't get a place lol

Age isn't really a necessity but from what ive seen the best thing for a defender is experience.

If you havent got rid of Jonny Evans, try him, along with Anton Ferdiand, Steven Taylor, Micah Richards. Gary Cahill isnt bad either. apart from those, definatly try and get Cahais and/or Breno

Well i've had an offer for Zapata accepted. He's coming at the end of the season for 26mil. 10 now and the rest in 12 months time.

Had an offer for Matias Cahais accepted too, 2mil for him looks like a bargain. Thanks for the help guys. Just need to sell someone in order to get the funds for both lol.

Any ideas on what to do with Nani? He doesn't play anymore and to be honest, he's not that good anyway. Nobody is showing any interest tho

Hey R-dizzle: If you are still wnting to replace Ferdinand then I would think about either Antonio Barragan (spelling) or Nicolas Burdisso. I have bought in Burdisso (2008-2009 season) from Inter and he is a really great consistent defender who can play DR, or DC (right). Well, he's great in my Man Utd set up anyway.

Also, there is another big defender called Naldo (6ft 8 or soemthing) who is a good DC - he's Brazilian so will need a WP but I have never had any problems signing him before, and he's cheap - can get him for under £10m!

Hope you find a decent replacement for Rio anyway.

Id personally send Nani on loan if anyone is interested, which im sure there will be! I havnt had any experience with him but if you are not using him and no one wants to buy then a loan might be a good answer! Give him some experience!

In reply (late reply i know) to your original question, i would have gone with Garay myself, a snap at 7.5 mil, but Cahais is an excellent signing, especially for 2 mil mate!

Yea i'll probably flog him off to one of my affiliated clubs. Got Boro and Motherwell for loan sending in the UK so he might be up for them.

The board interfered and accepted the deal for Cahais, i thought i was gonna be pushed to 6-7mil so i was rather shocked when i got him for 2

barzagli. probably too ex. mertesacker works well for mi. too bad zapata's too expensive. u should buy him once u start ur first season
