if you are not prejudiced by age then you should get Ballack for around £5m. He will last very well until about 34-35, and is probably one of the top 5 all-round midfielders in the game. He is the real deal.
Younger than that...Arnie (black French lad) Mvumeba (sp)at Portsmouth and if you want cheap but good in a year than Steven Defour, Georginio Wijnaldum or Dica from Steaua will work well.
