Lately there has been a lot of discussion, and some questioning of the LLM ethos.
This thread may seem GQ'ish, but I just had one of those experiences that reinforces my belief in LLM.
After a couple of years with Haugesund in Norway I felt the time had come for changes, I do that a bit too often. As I had the Danish league, my home league, I decided to take a look at some of the new clubs during the summer break.
Among those clubs was Brande, located near Esbjerg if memory serves me. This was one of those clubs with absolutely no players and no league history. After a long hardfought season we managed to stay in the 2nd division, and we seem to be on the right track.
The point is that I have been given the opportunity to build a club from scratch. That is what I consider the greatest joy of LLM.
We have many challenging years ahead of us(hopefully), but that's a different story for another forum.
So share with me, what is the greatest joy of LLM?

Not only building you team from scratch.. but beating the boards and your expectations... Everyine sets goals at the beginning of the season, if you can manage to surpass those with all the limitations you have, then that, for me, is a great joy...
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> maybe a thread like this will tell people that LLm is more than just about rules. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
My joy of LLM is making a small team big, a la Billericay Town.
Obviously it doesn't happen very often (re: my one season escapade with Real Avila, I made them disappear), but when it does, it's a great feeling...
...Until the new chairman turns out to be a barstard and sacks you half way into the season after your best ever.
Quite the reverse, don. I believe the biggest joy (and challenge) is taking over the squad of deadwood and moulding it into your own by use of free transfers, youth signings and hours of tinkering with tactics to get the best from the shÃ*te you have.
Old adage? "You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear."
...but it's fun trying
(That's why the original Leigh challenge remains my favourite game)(Liverpool() )
It is off course a matter of taste, both scenarios are challenging and fun. The advantage of the former is that you get the "my team" feel right from the start.

Realistically, though...how often does a manager take over a Club with _no_ players...?

Aye, that is a rare sight
However, it is a part of reality in CM, and a part of it we can't deny.
That wasn't really the point I was trying to make though. LLM has a tendency to get bogged down to rules discussions. Those discussions are off course a part of LLM, but when it comes down to what really matters the rules/guidelines a way down on the list. I distinctly remember the first time I saw the "C" next to my team in the table (Southport, conference after 4 seasons).
After endless struggle these moments come along that makes it all worth it. You know you've played the game without cheating and you can be a bit proud of yourself and your boys.
LLM is the only way I can get that feeling, in a game anyway.
