I try to make sure that my final pre-season friendly is against a team I can beat comfortably, to have the players in good morale for the start of the season proper.
Not sure whether it actually has any impact on my players' morale...
And for some reason I recently ended up with a home friendly that got me my first full-house. The opposition? Crewe.
Go figure.
I usually arrange three or four friendlies (all at home, to take in whatever gate receipts there might be - every little bit helps ), however, in my newly started 01-02 game with Polar Wraclaw (I was sacked by Calais ), I decided to tour Belarus. I even checked in the atlas to see what teams were the most near-by, all to reduce travelling costs

(Polar Wraclaw is a Polish team, FYI)

Poof - going abroad, I had to settle for a 'tour' of West Yugoslavia for my Belgrade based team!
To my surprise when I was setting up the tour, I had 10  countries to shoose from:, Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Rep., Georgia, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. Travelling by bus must be really cheap in Poland

Very nice. I don't usually remember to play friendlies, if I do I always have one against Denbigh, my local team. Not had many against European Champions though.

Preseason I always play against Basingstoke town (again local club) I always like to give my boys the boost of a big win before the league starts
Preseason I always play a home friendly against a small non-league team (not my local club). I always like to give my boys the boost of a big win before the league starts...
But it never happens! Sometimes we don't even bloody win!

I have exactly the same ten (swap Yuoslavia for Poland) places to tour aswell ! Fancy that !
I really wanted to be flash and go to Austria, but it was just out of reach, so I settled on staying home and save up for it.
