At the risk of being flamed by the regulars for going way off topic...

Its down to how it sounds when you say the phrase. If it sounds more natural to say "a Ukrainian" (or "a ukelele"), then thats the correct syntax.

Not LLM , but have been playing as Shakhtar for 3 seasons, ukrainian league great fun to play, just trying to get a reasonable CL draw. I only made the CL group stages once so far and UEFA QF once. Lots of impressive youngsters coming up through the reserves.

Yup, the spelling is irrelevent. Do you pronounce the 'h' in historic? If so, then it should be 'a historic'. If not, then it's 'an historic' (and you're strange ).
