From my experience, the Standard English (or RP) IPA spelling/pronunciation is /es ai/ (depending on accent). Though most common folk like me would pronounce it /əs ai/ ('ə' is a general shortened vowel sound).

As we're on the topic of pronunciation, to settle an argument, how do you pronounce Greenhalgh's, as in the baker. (i think it may just be a northern thing). Is it green orls, green als, green holches, green halches, or some other crazy way.
I realise this is as pointless as the initial post but......someone must know!!
