Ok, I've got this "rotation" player (came before 2006), and his contract is up in 5 months.

If I try to renew it, his agent gives me the "instructed his client not to discuss contract terms till he receives a formal offer" shtick

My asst. is saying that he's a wonderful player..blah blah and we should give him 53k p/w. So I'm gonna offer something like 40k (he gets 24.5k on his present contract)

My question is, how much do I give him in the "signing fee"? I gave my first team players 900k (they ask for 1.3M)

Arrgh, now (after a couple of good performances) the Asst. says I should give him 63k

You stick to your guns. Most players will ask for too much and you can usually haggle to a compromise.

As for signing fee I usually lower wages and increase signing on fee as it is usually cheaper financially in the long run

I usually really lower signing on fees when signing new players and give them a better wage because if you sell them after a season then you end up having paid them so much money with a large signing on fee. If I am renewing a player's contract I give them no signing on fee and leave the wage they want.

Now I have another problem, his contract runs out 4 months from now and he's constantly rejecting the new contract I give him saying

"doesn't consider the length of the contract appropiate at this point of his career"

Keep in mind that he's 23 years old, and I've already offered him 2/3/4 year contracts and he rejected them all
