Look at Derby this season :
4-0 defeat to Spurs
6-0 defeat to Liverpool
5-0 defeat to Arsenal
5-0 defeat to West Ham
4-1 defeat to Man Utd
4-1 defeat to Preston in the cup
I think it's fun to have those high scores occasionally. I usually have that type of score playing with Arsenal. At the end of the last season playing 4 matches with Arsenal within 2 weeks.
2-4 defeat to Arsenal (A, UCL)
0-4 defeat to Arsenal (A., EPL)
5-0 defeat Arsenal (H, UCL)
5-2 defeat Arsenal (N, FA)
That's sort of funny since I use the same team, same tactics and the results are so different based on the venue.
Magic, it sounds like you may be doing something "all or nothing", e.g., making a very heavy "bet" on a given outcome.
Tactically, it might be a very attacking formation which is equally capable of scoring five or conceding five.
Team-talks, it might be something like always placing a ton of pressure on your players. When they respond well to that, you get an inspired performance, but if they're cracking under pressure, and concede two, they crumble utterly.
It might also be rotational, e.g., if you're starting the same XI on Saturday, and ten new outfield players on Wednesday, and seeing one group get hammered while the other does fine, maybe there's a problem with the group that's getting hammered.
The opposite - starting the same XI regardless of form, morale, and condition - can also cause problems.
Also, one thing I've noticed is that high Determination is a pretty key stat when your club goes a goal or two down. If you've several players with shaky confidence and low Determination, maybe they're giving up on matches?
It could also be a lack of Consistency (hidden attribute), and/or simple inexperience. If you've filled the squad with high-potential youths, you should expect less consistent performance than you would get from a bunch of 30-year-olds with "Professional" mentality.
