Just turn the skin cache off whilst you add the new graphics/skins. Once the skins graphics are showing ingame, turn the skin cache on.
(Or you could leave the cache on and just use a clean file).
Then leave the skin cache on until you want to add some more graphics.

The only people who should need to play with the skin cache off are people making graphics/skins.

Yes, you need to turn the skin cache off to add player pics. Or leave the skin cache on and put a file called clean.txt in the data\cache folder.

Does the clean file work in the Gold Demo?

I cann't seem to get it to work - the game won't show new content or delete the clean file. I tried calling it just clean, clean.txt and also tried putting them in the data\cache\english folder aswell as data\cache.

Turning off the skin cache and changing skins works, so I know the graphics work.

I can see the advantage of having the skin cache option, but it would have been far more useful if accompanied by a "Force graphics refresh" option comparable to the refresh media comments thing.

It is inconvenient to have to switch skins twice every time you want to check the effects of a minor tweak in the skin - if all the graphics can be refreshed by changing the skin (with the cache turned off), why can they not be refreshed while keeping the same skin, or effectively changing to the same skin?

If this could be implemented, preferably with a force option that would automatically discard the existing cache for the current skin, it would vastly speed up graphics work while also allowing everyone to get the benefits of the cache - I'm sure I can't be the only one who has it permanently turned off pending some hypothetical time when I'm 100% happy with the appearance of FM06 (or more likely, the FM07 gold demo).

Ok, couple of questions

1. what IS skin caching?? I mean literally what is it, what does it do, how is it different from before.

2. I downloaded some new logos, put them in the right folder, restarted game, switched off skin caching yet i couldnt see them. Would reloading my skin (Janderssons elegance) work?

Thanks

Once you've turned off the skin cache, you then need to force the game to reload your skin's graphics before you'll see any changes. You do this by either quitting the game and re-starting it or by changing to a different skin then changing back. Again, you have to do one of these after turning off the cache to see the changes.
