Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Mixed VS Often (Forward Runs, Crossing and Through Balls)

I am developing a tactic for my Barcelona side so before anyone says 'But anyt tactic will work with Barca', my idea is to test a tactic with the best team possible with more or less unlimited attacking options and then adjust the tactic to suit a lesser team and see how this works.

One thing that I have always wondered about is the settings that should be applied to wingers who are in the mould of Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi, Joe Cole, Franck Ribery etc ie attacking midfielders who like to cut inside often as they are generally played on the wing.

Obvious;y if a player is a 'pure' winger such as Jermaine Pennant or joaquin they should run with the ball often try crosses from the byline often and everything else should be set to either mixed or really.

What would the following sliders be set to for these two pleyers (Messi and Ronaldinho) to optimise their performance and perhaps get them to come inside sometimes from the wing?

- Try Through Balls
- Run With Ball
- Cross Ball
- Cross From
- Creative Freedom

Thanks to anybody who responds.

I think everything on mixed and creative freedom high should do the trick for you.

Thanks mate.

I was also thinking this as this doesn't limit their options as a player with crosses set to often and passing to mixed will always whip it in rather than pass a ball back to an attacking midfielder who is advancing for a long shot.

However I am wondering what would happen if such players had all of their sliders (Through balls, crossing etc) set to often. Would this cause them to either cross or pass instantly rather than making a decision which could help play.

This is leading me to belive that the often option should only be used out of desperation for example when your team is a goal down and you need wingers and full backs to constantly cross to a crouch style target man to score a scrappy header. Do you also think this?
