It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Sorry if I have missed an obvious thread but...

I'm winning at halftime 1 or 2 nil, what is the best thing to say? I used to say don't let your performance drop but having just discovered the assistant managers feedback noticed that this angers players.

Please can someone direct me in the right direction of what is the best thing to say and when?

1-0 up I tell my determined and resolute players not to let their performances drop. I tell the ones who can't handle the pressure to enjoy the game, or if their playing well, I tell them I'm pleased. Anyone with 9+, I say I'm thrilled.

@dav7fbman: really? I usually just give the same instruction to everyone. Is that a bad thing?

0-0 I use just one more goal or you can win this
1-0 I use encourage
2-0 or more I use pleased

I might use separarte instructions for some individual players if morale has dropped but you have to be careful and guage reaction to get this right.

My choice is that when my players have a 6 or 7 I 'show encouragement' - I rarely say I am pleased when they have sevens (I will say I am pleased with them when they have 7's and we are winning by atleast 2)
When they are at an 8 I say I am pleased, only do I tell my players 'I am thrilled' is after a game with 8's or 9's..
When the whole team are underperforming and there are 6's and 7's I will tell them 'I am disappointed' or 'I expect better' and it seems to work.

Hope you can understand what I typed and goodluck!

At 1-0 I do the "don't expect performance to drop" team talk and give "pleased" player talks to anyone on 8 or above.
