Any from:

Billy Jones - 650k from Crewe (sometimes want more, but worth a try).
David Lilley (somewhere in scotland) 80-100k.
Kostandinov [spelling?] (from either Hibs or Hearts, I forget) - 170k.
Loan Vito Mannone from Arsenal as keeper.
Jeffery Jourden (GK) from France (he comes to Champ clubs, not sure about L1/2) about 100k.
Digard - ditto for Jourden.
Sutton (fwd) (not Chris, but can't remember his first name) poss from Kilmarnock or Gretna - sorry, can't remember exactly.

Basically, scout scotland - there are bargains a-plenty, even from SPL clubs. Other than the Old Firm, most players will come to lower-league England if you promise them a decent team membership. Sweden is also a good place to scout.

First thing I'd do is get a parent club & raid their reserves / youth for loan signings.

A lot of people go for Doudin up front, he's cheap & young & becomes pretty good.

Paul Smith is massively underrated in goal, you can get Enyeama to replace him for about 200k, V.Hleb for right wing / forward role for about £100k too iirc. Also, I managed to find an 18yr old CM in Belarus squad when I looked at Hleb who was good & only cost about £18k.

Your first thought was my first thought aswell, except my board returned unable to find a parent club . Thanks for the players though. Hleb used to be a favourite of mine. Can't believe I forgot about him.

I think you can get Josep Guardiala (sp?) on a free first season too, he's an oldie but will last a season.
