I always sign Billy Jones when I'm an English team - Leeds, Chelsea, Liverpool, Sheffield Utd. For Championship teams he rates avg 7.5+ consistently (playing in various positions) but in the Prem he's very average.

However, he is probably the most versatile backup player you can get for under 750k, is always on the bench for me, and best of all he doesnt get p***ed off about starting less than 10 games a season (until he's about 25).

Was wondering: 1) has anyone successfully integrated him into a top team where he played regularly (how, please?); 2) are there any better value backup players? 3) am I alone in rating him as a must-buy backup?

2. i managed to sign garay for less and he is better imo
3. for back-up you are probably right but not if your competing in champions league than you should buy better

I tend to throw him into cup games against inferior opposition, or Champ League / Uefa Cup teams if I have already qulified and want to rest a key player.

Will try Garay though - haven't used him before.

I'm the same as you, I like to buy Billy Jones for his versatility, he's constantly on the bench & sometimes starts at CB or RB if players need resting or in cup games.

Garay is a better CB but that's the only position he plays (other than sweeper) so yes there are better back-up players for around the same price but none that I have come across have been able to cover in so many positions.

I sign Billy Jones for mid prem table teams only and then as back-up.......good for making a profit though.....

Another great player you might want to look at is a fella by the name of Belluschi...he's Argentinian with Italian (I think) dual nationallity and can generally be got on the cheap in the 2nd season (under £2M)....covers across the whole of the attacking mid positions

I have billy jones on my hearts game. Half way through my 4th season and he is my captain and performs well in any position i play him. Played in the uefa cup final for me last season and won man of the match even though we lost on penalties I think if you give him alot of games he will never let you down( so probably not a good buy for chelsea et al) first 3 seasons he was my centre back but this season he has been my mc/dmc and was my second highest rated player before he broke his foot

I got him for my rangers team, he was very consistent performer, until he managed to play for england!!
