[Start rant]

I've been in a bit of trouble with my board due to poor performance of late. We came surging back and won three on the trot, then defeated a Div 1 side in the Turkish FA Cup after a penalty shoot out. Everything was looking rosy. I went to save and the dreaded "CM4.exe has created an error and will have to close" came up.

I repeated the matches...W0, D1, L2 and lost in extra time in the FA Cup game. Board thinks that it would be better served by another manager and if I don't perform in the next match, I'm out the door.

This on top of last season where I lost out on promotion due to the score changeing bug, and I have lost interest in this game. I left the game in that position until tonight, but at present my heart is not in the game. It's a case of "only if" and I know it is a case of round-a-bouts and swings, but I feel cheated. Low ebb in my LL game, but I know I will surge back if I am given the chance by this fickle board.

I was talking to wearra last night and mentioned how I'd heard some guys did a weekly auto-save...you're not one I take it, Taips

I don't like doing it, so I don't. From the start I only save once a session, at the end of the session.

I once lost 9 months game time when I got the illegal error message.

Heh. That's bad luck. Speaking of bad replays.. I was taking Dag and Red along, doing just swimmingly in the FA Cup after a successful promotion year.. and so we went up against.. I think it was a 1st Division Team. We fought for that 2-2 draw. So they schedule the replay. In the interim, I lose eleven guys to injury. Eleven. Hey, ya know, it happens. These guys get good and they get the callups and the like.. but dang..

I throw what basically amounts to reserve teams and ball boys into a major FA Cup replay. 6-0 loss. They sack me for the horrid result.

Argh. Sometimes people just aren't pleased.

I save weekly as usually a crash spoils my game completly because i have long sessions. Touch wood it hasn't crashed at all except for one game with EP1.

Hmmm. I save after every win or draw, or when I am going to be away from the keyboard for a substantial amount of time (and the game is not busy trying to advance a day or two).

Sounds dodgy if you save after every win or draw...

I have the autosave set on monthly. That way if it does go tits up I don't lose too much of what I've played.

EDIT : I had made a post explaining why I did it that way, having to do with running too many leagues on too slow of a machine...and...I decided to set it to autosave every week. That way I won't ever somehow cook the books, although I have not lost a save on CM4 yet (and it has been a long time since I've lost one in any CM game, from cm2 through cm4).

Additionally, my clubs usually don't challenge for much. I'm a crap manager, and they usually run out of money and sack me before long.
