Yes, it is a bug. It has gotten better as new EPs have come along, but it is still hard to completely avoid. The problem is that the competition scheduling is a really complex problem, and even IRL there need to be "manual" corrections to what the computer algorithms spit out.
You always have the choice to instruct your players not to join the national team for a specific game that clashes with yours. But in previous EPs there was an additional bug that forced the players not to EVER join the national team again -if you used this option. I don't know if this latter bug has been corrected yet.
Iajafer, I am not sure if it's only for friendlies, because I never use it. But I remember that the option appears along with the news message "X of your players have been called up to play for the national team". There must be a button appearing along with the news message. If not...
I have a keeper that plays for england under 21's, always getting called up, but hes also my first team keeper and its along season in Div 3, so I never let him play more than 45min in a friendley (you cant do anything about a proper game, its the same in real life), but having looked at the match report, I see that he has played 53 mins. Not a major problem, but its not 45 is it!!
I'm chuffed. I just had my first international call-up. My teams first "cap"!. Ok, so it's Wales and it's the U21's but when you are in the position I am in, any news is good news.
Then I had the big decision on how much I wanted him to play. Go for it lad said I, play ya heart out and bring me back some stories. He did, and the story he brought back was that he wasn't picked.
He did though get a nice SMS message from the stripper from accross the room of the night club he visted after the first match. I don't believe the spotty youngster, and I have hired a lie detector to see how much of a big head he really is.
