Besides the guidelines listed in the sticky, I'd be interested in knowning what other home rules other LLaMa's impose on themselves in CM.
My latest is regarding loaning players. It's all too easy to get those PL youngsters to play a season in the cellar leagues. Ask, and most times they will come. My old house rule regarding loaners was only to get players in that my scout had discovered first. That was CM3, but I have had a change of direction slightly in CM4.
I now impose apon myself the rule that using the filter "loan" in the Player Search, I can only loan in players two Divisions above the league I am in now (in a four tier or more league). If I am in a three tier league I am only allowed to loan in players from the division above.
I also am not allowed to scout the player concerned before getting him in on loan. I am totally dependent on the stats I see to make the decision on offering him a loan contract. Possibly not totally realistic as loaned players would be thoughly scouted before being signed in RL, but I like the mystery of what the player "could" be.
I think the problem for me is that I am 90% certain that Fergie and Wenger don't produce sh1te players.
If you see that a player has come through the Manure youth Academy, you know that he will be more than capable of doing a job for you right up until Div 1.
On the other hand, we do see players getting loaned out from the Premiership into the lower Leagues, in both the Real World TM. and in our LLama save.
I would agree. If i am to loan players i will only loan two leagues above my own or perhaps 3. I would not try and loan Premiership players unless i was in Division 2 or 1.
With Regarding to staff. I have my own little rule in place. There are some really good staff about that want Next to nothing p/w to work. I will not sign any member of staff that can not speak english and i will give them a realistic wage. I will take in consideration Minimum wage IRL which is about £4.20 i think? and then give them realistic working hours of 8am - 5pm and work out the cost p/w. For my assistant manager i will give him a bit more and scout a little less.
Edit: When i move up the leagues which i havn't yet I will generally give all my staff a bit of a pay rise. That is the plan anyway.
I only tend to loan players who's wages I can afford in whole, i.e. no more than £750pw and who are players I could realistically see joining the club in a few years, hopefully on bosmans.
-I only sign domestic players before I reach the top division.
-If I don't have a scout, I don't sign any players (although in the guidelines it says that it's OK to use the "search" in such cases).
-I only sign players when I absolutely have to. If I have enough enough players to form a squad, I don't bother looking for anything other than promising youngsters.
I guess my main one would be money - I always try and make sure any transfers I do bring in are balanced up by ones going out, often selling more than buying (and using youth)... I then have a pretty tight salary cap, for players and staff...
I'm also scouting Brazil despite managing in Yugoslavia, as my nationality in the game is Brazilian... I also signed a Brazilian from a Yugoslav team.
Normally I'd say this is alright, but it's a bit grey due to the distance between the two countries - would I realistically be able to afford it even if I do have the links ?
I've always found getting loan players one of the more difficult things in 01/02. Many times I have seen players (or clubs) reject my loan offer only to go to the opposition.
As a result, my rules are simple:
- only loan someone I need
- give my youth players a chance first unless they are definitely not up to it
- loan from the same country
If a Premier player wants to come to my Div. 3 side, fantastic. I have enough trouble convincing them to come to my side when I'm in the same division though, so that has never been an issue for me.
Assuming I'm managing in Britain, I apply the following.
Only scout youth/UK+Ireland when less than £1M in the bank.
Also scout Central Europe/Scandinavia with £1M+ in the bank.
When finances Secure, also scout rest of Europe, and North Africa.
When finances Rich, scout anywhere.
