Happy Birthday to you...

KUTGW Nobby, I like this thread to be honest, like the new style as well, writing a report after each game is ok but its a bit hard on the eyes after a while and just not needed really. Nice to see Billericay doing so well

Cheers lads...

Fourteenth Update - E I E I E I O...

Previously, Billericay made a very good start to their debut league season, lying in 4th in early December.
The first match was an FA Cup 2nd Round tie at 2nd Division Brighton. Albion ran out deserved 2-0 winners. What was worse is that one of my summer M C's torn his groin and needed surgery. Still, he gets to have sympathy massages in his groinal area from nice ladies... you always have to look on the brightside!
Moving on... Three significant matches saw us draw at Aldershot, beat Crewe 2-0 and win 3-0 at Wrexham. Fantastic stuff.
We hammered Wimbledon 5-0 at Selhurst in the Vans Trophy before going out to QPR on penalties at Loftus Road.
Darly & Valey continue to notch the goals, and the midfield is also supplying a few. NOR D C decides to sign for Nottingham Forest on a Bosman 2. The compensation fee is set at a paltry £45,000. Should have accepted the £1m+ offers. :o On the plus side, his young English replacement has been outstanding and so far has the highest average rating of 7.83. He does seem to have a yellow card fetish though!
The League is going fantastic. I've lost my first home game but it was the only one I lost in the 18 games I played in this session. The table shows just how good it is right now.

One thing I am surprised about is that my Assistant Manager, who's contract ran out last summer is still working without a contract. He has some superb stats (he's was a long serving Billericay player so didn't have to look for him) yet nobody else wants him!
Eight games to play. Everything to play for. For the first time I am the one who has a gap at the top entering the run in, and I bloody intend to keep it.
Oh, and England have been drawn in the same European Championship group as Scotland. Should be interesting...

Fifteenth Update - Preparing For A Promotion Party

A good run in the last session left us very handily placed at the top of Division 3 in our debut League season.
And my run continued. A 3-0 derby win against Canvey Island drew a record crowd of 5977 with record gate of £35,710. We went nine clear and Canvey sunk from 5th to 7th. Next match we beat new 5th placed side Lincoln 4-2 at Sincil Bank, which sealed our promotion and set a club record of 18 games unbeaten to boot. Fabulous stuff!
The 44th match was at home to Exeter, a 3-1 win gave us the championship. A 4-0 home win against Shrewsbury wrapped up the season and we ended with a 23 match unbeaten run. Division 2 here we come!

Champions Cup - Dortmund 0 Real Madrid 2 in Glasgow
UEFA Cup - Bordeaux 1 Barcelona 0 in Vienna.
FA Cup - Aston Villa (D1) 0 Middlesbrough 1
League Cup - First Division Burnley shocked holders Crystal Palace 2-1.
Vans Trophy - Scunthorpe 1 QPR 1, QPR win on penalties.
FA Trophy - Telford 1 Doncaster 0
Premier League - Manchester United champions, Chelsea runners up, Reading 3rd. Southampton, Charlton & Arsenal relegated
Division 1 - Oxford champions, bankrupt Bradford & Notts County promoted. Bournemouth, Bolton & Colchester relegated.
Division 2 - QPR champions, Leicester & Coventry promoted. Hartlepool, Brighton, Tranmere & Bristol Rovers relegated.
Division 3 - Billericay champions, Mansfield, Wrexham & Crewe promoted. Port Vale relegated
Conference - Halifax champions, Huddersfield runners up. Rotherham, Ashton & Ford relegated.
Canvey Island have lost in the last FIVE Division 3 playoffs.

I'm a dozy bugger and forgot to save the Third Division table, so instead, here's my competition for next season.

Close & Pre Season news...
Valey was top scorer again with 21, 20 in the League taking his tally to 99 with Billericay. Voted Fans Player of the Year for the third time.
Young D C had highest rating of 7.76 in 51 games.
I'm named Manager of the Year of Division 3.
Promoted to the Conference are Accrington Stanley, Boreham Wood & Moor Green, all of which are making their debut.
The board expect a brave battle against relegation.
They also improve training facilities, which cost £375,000 but are still good!
New record average attendance of 4265 last season.
Our bank balance reads over £3m after TV money, I can spend £1.1m. I use over half buying back my Swede for £675,000. He then tears his groin in his first pre season game and is out for 3 months.
I also sign a Bosman S C from Crewe who is very impressive in pre season.
I'm ranked 35th fair & 180th average.
My Assistant Manager leaves for Darlington. I offer a Player/Assistant Manager position to Darly and am awaiting his response.

STOP PRESS
Yugoslavia 2016 European Championships news
England beat Scotland 4-3 in their group match. However, Scotland go on to hammer Yugoslavia 6-0 in the final round of games meaning the Scots and Yugoslavs qualify. Bloody fixers! Scotland end up reaching the final where they lose 4-1 to a powerful Portuguese team.
The England manager is sacked. He is replaced by a COACH from Portsmouth.

Valey and Darly do not resemble their names at all. Valey is a striker I signed from Port Vale and Darly is a striker I signed from Darlington, hence me calling them Valey & Darly. It enables me to create a distinction between the two here and saves my having to type ex Port Vale S C all the time.

Oh, and thanks for your kind words.

It's actually a very good example of why we don't encourage player naming at all, even false names.

Guys get confused and believe the names are genuine, then....

Sixteenth Update - Taking On The Second Division

Two successive promotions had seen little Billericay Town reach the dizzy heights of Division 2. Life is likely to be tough in this league, and to be honest, I'll be happy if I don't get relegated...
And after this update... well, read on...
First up was a game at Bournemouth, a 2-0 win although my Trainspotter (ex Crewe player) gets injured on his debut. We follow that up with a 4-1 home win over former Premier League team Hull and we find ourselves the early pacesetters! We lose our next league match and our unbeaten run ends at 26.
My ex Darlington striker agrees to become a Player/Assistant Manager at the tender age of 31.
The League Cup always starts early, we knock Luton out in Round 1 before losing at Division 1 side Oldham on penalties, our keeper missing the vital kick after saving 3.
I played four World Cup qualifiers with Ireland, losing away to Finland & Portugal and beating Faroe Islands & Northern Ireland at home.
In the FA Cup we got past Northampton at New Lodge (with record gate of £37,560) to set up a tie at Wigan in Round 2.
Back to league action, we faltered a little after our good start, but our match at Oldham for some reason spurred us back into life as we set off on another unbeaten run, which at close of play has not been broken at 13. Significant results in this session have been a 1-1 draw at a now massive Ninian Park, a 2-1 home win against Darlington (despite our captain being sent off when we were a goal down) and a 1-0 win at Scunthorpe.

So, how has that unbeaten run helped us..?

It's helped us a great deal and I'm ecstatic! I said I was expecting a tough season yet we're not far from half way and, along with Darlington, we've started to pull clear!

In other news...
Liverpool had a player banned for one game for making rude gestures at Wolves fans. This is the first time I've ever seen it in CM3, has anybody else had it?
My Swede eventually came back from injury, and is back to his old Conference self of performing well and setting up around half our sides goals
I've signed a former German under 21 M LC from Norwich for £475,000. He's played half a dozen games now and he is fitting in well. What is a big shock is I've now spent more than £1m this season!
Mansfield are bankrupt, having been promoted with us last season. Their ground capacity at Field Mill has been reduced to a paltry 3000.

Until next time... surely Billericay can't make it three in a row?

I see that CJB is one of the two thousand fans that have suddenly appeared from nowhere now I'm in Division 2...

Seventeenth Update - Tough At The Top

Riding high at the top of Division 2 as we approached winter, unfortunately our form has been on a rollercoaster since then. Minor injuries have played a big part with key players often suffering from a week or two off on a frequent basis. My German is proving to be a more than worthy purchase and ex Vale striker has broken the club record for career league goals, his tally now stands at 110. Not bad for a shade under 5 full seasons.
Cup action saw us win at Wigan in Round 2 before going down by a single goal at First Division high flyers Nottingham Forest. In the Vans Trophy we hammered Wimbledon again (only 4-0 this time) before losing on penalties at our old rivals Aldershot Town in the Southern 2nd Round. "We'll concentrate on the league I was quoted as saying." No I bloody didn't I say.
Topsy turvy league form meant that we couldn't extend our lead, in fact, when games in hand are taken into account, the top six are all quite close to each other. Key games were an abysmal 1-0 defeat at home to Peterborough where Billericay Girls School would have played better and a dour goaless draw at Wigan (who at the time were 6th). Thankfully other games were better...

As you can see, goals are somewhat lacking in this division this season. I'm joint second highest scorers with a meagre 53. However, all the top six look a fairly safe bet for at least a playoff position, which is far more than I ever expected at the start of the season.
Another thrilling end in store, just like all of my Conference title chases. Thank god there is more than one place to go for though... and wouldn't a third straight divisional title be nice...
