Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Offside trap vs Tightmarking

Do they contradict?

And also, should one not play offside if one defends deep?

And in your experiences, how effective has offside trap been?

Why would they contradict when both are totally different things?

It wouldn't be wise playing deep no, for it to be effective you need players to push up.

Actually, tight man marking does make it that much harder on your players to implement the trap.

Tight zonal marking is different - I'm not sure whether it or normal zonal marking is more conducive to offside trap.

And as Cleon said, playing deep with trap is a bad idea. My opininion is that less variables in the trap the better - the best case is two central defenders trapping a single striker making a forward run.

Yea, i suppose tight marking seems to impede use of offside trap ... in any case i discovered that when i did away with it, my team seemed to defend better and be less susceptible to long balls over the top, since strikers were then not on directly top of my last DCs... however deep i tried to defend long balls always seemed my undoing. Unchecking the offsidetrap box worked better for me.
Granted, that was something i observed while tinkering with tactics during one game ... ill have to observe over the course of a few more to see if it really is the case. Will post back with results.
