It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Team Talks - Have I lost the plot?

Evening all.

Has anyone done a study of the Team Talks feature (pre, mid, post match) as I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with it and am at a loss as to what to do next.

It seems that when I praise the team they don't take any notice and when I criticise them (which isn't that often) it's the same story, "Nothing specific noticed" or "Didn't seem to be listening". Also when you "wish luck" I'm puzzled as to how that can demotivate someone (but at the same time they "look delighted"!).

Any advice my peers here on the T&T forum could give me on how they approach team talks would be greatly appreciated as I've totally lost faith in my ability to use them, particularly the pre match team talk.

I'm playing with the Arsenal BTW, 15 games into my second season, currently lying 5th in the Prem. five points behind Villa with a game in hand. Just dropped from second place after losing away at Wigan, a match my team dominated - sound familiar?

I'm using a variation of wwfan's excellent RoT based tactic plus I've tried to build my own systems this season, with varied success.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. - this Arsenal team have to be the worst team I've ever played with when it comes to heading! Totally useless most of them!

I really believe they are a waste of time and should be left to the ass man.

I have got Bognor Regis promoted from the Conference South to League One so far without givng a single talk, and if you look at Cleon's Sheff Utd thread, he has got them to the top of the Prem in the first season without using them.

I dont pay much attention to them either. If they win I tell them they did well and dont bother any more checking as no-one listens anyway. Maybe as you get further into the game and get a bigger reputation they will, but I am past caring.

On the heading thing, I usualy set henry as target man but get the ball played to him running onto the ball - works a treat

Yeah, I handed over team talks to the Asst. Manager for a spell in my first season but lost confidence in that after a bad run of results. I kinda feel that I should be doing it though, after all I am the manager!

What I find frustrating is the limited number of options available as to what one can say to the team and the inconsistency in when those options may be available, e.g. when at 0-0 or 0-1 in a tight match I might want to "encourage" the team at half time but "encourage" doesn't appear in the list of options available to me. What I do get is a list of things to say that doesn't quite fit the bill. Anyway I know I'm probably not making much sense so I think I will give up trying for now. If handing over team talks to the Asst is good enought for Cleon then it's good enough for me!

Over to you Pat Rice, don't you let me down!

I used to control all my team talks, but on my current save I've moved to letting my assistant do them.

I haven't noticed a whole lot of difference, but I was aware when I'd completely failed to motivate my players or when I'd caused a loss in morale after a game. Now that seems to happen less.

However, now Pat Rice has been snapped up by bloody Birmingham City, I'm relying on some obscure coach who happens to have 20 motivation. This had better work. *shakes fist*
