What is the best way to "setup" Defender Centres in a 5-3-2 formation is it the same as a 4-4-2 with the 3rd best defender playing a sweepers role? So that the the strongest header,jumper & strength plays on the left & the one with pace & acceleration plays on the right or am I reading this wrong?

Depends really on how you want to set up the tactic overall. Kinda hard to suggest anything without knowing anything at all about the rest of the set up.

Hi Cleon,

As I said I use a 5-3-2 formation with the DR & DL pushing up to halfway to the two wingers.

I also use short passing narrow width slow tempo with mentality on 15 on all & Dline the same.
Any ideas?

I'd move the fullbacks to the wingback positions and then farrow them up to midfield. They track back to fullback positions automatically without the need to force them there. With the central DC, I find it best if his closing down is higher then the other two DCs, he seems to get more involved then.

Regarding the three DC's in the 5-3-2 formation do you then use the outside 2 as a 4-4-2 where the best header, jumper & strongest plays on the left, with the pacy one on the right with the middle one on closing down then
