Playing as Lyon in fifth season, changed my tactics and was wondering if everything is like it should be. I'm not going to buy other players this season so no need to say that i need other players . Anyway look at the screenshots and everything will be more clear.
1. You may want to take a look at the thread that talks abot Creative freedom because I think you have allocated too much to your team. Because of this, I think you may score goals, but you'll also most certainly lose too many.
2. You have a reasonable formation and although it has 5 defensive players (3 DCs and 2 DMCs), I don't think you'll be able to handle the stronger teams - especially away from home when they use wingers. So, a couple of suggestions about this. You may want to consider having the 2 outer DCs with side arrows to the full-back positions and have the DMCs with back arrows. At the moment your DMCs have forward arrows, but I think you'll achieve the same with forward runs set to the middle.
3. You seem to have the majority of the team set to high creative freedom and yet Fred is set at the normal position (i.e. lower than the rest). This is fine since you have so many attacking options I suppose but you may consider changing this if you lower creative freedom for the other players (just a thought, but I don't really know how this is going to end up looking overall)
4. It will be interesting to hear the thoughts of others, but if you want my honest opinion (and I hope I'm wrong), I can't see you ever getting a clean sheet away from home. It's just far too attacking and you'll be leaving huge gaps at the back. When teams are down with only a few minutes to go, they will usually go to a 4-2-4 formation and if they do ..... you're in trouble.
So, by all means try it and see how you get on. Afterall, I'm still learning this game myself (after years as are you probably). But I think if you want to have such an attacking formation, you'll really have to consider havng an alternative formation (or set up) for harder away games.
In FM08 it is possible to have the same formation suit you home and away by adjusting some sliders and arrows only. I just can't see it in this formation though.
The only thing i changed about my formation is that i put my two dmc's where they are now, last 4 seasons they played on the middleline with arrows going back. And i won the champions league three times. But it was getting really hard so i changed my tactics.
Certainly my tactic does need a lot of tweaking. But thats where you guys come in. Please be free to say what i need to do. But if you can say f.e. free role on or off, through balls often or rarely would be much easier for me.
