Third minute of injury time in a home Conference game on CM4. Score is 1-1 and my left sided midfielder steps up to take a penalty. Sends the keeper the wrong way, but it hits the post and rebounds straight back to my taker. I have a feeling of horror as he calmly slots it into the empty half of the goal.
I then laugh when the referee allows the goal and we win 2-1!
(Unless they've changed the rule where the ball must touch someone else before the kicker can touch it again.
Reminds me of a free kick that was taken by the opposition... inside my 6 yard box! I had a wall of 6 men including my keeper standing in the goal mouth! Needless to say, the ball flew straight through my ghost of a goalkeeper!

Bit of a ManUre-itis, eh Nobby? :p

Well, Hilton Park's not far away from Old Trafford... but I think the promise of a few free pints in the club bar swayed it for the ref.
Humph, the goal area (6 yard box) is mainly used for goal kicks, however no, you can't have an indirect free kick taken from within the goal area. It must be placed on the edge of the area that is parallel to the goal line.
And yeah, I noticed that they don't stand on the goal line, for those IFKs...

Yeah, how he let your 5 goals stand is beyond me...
tonyhomenow, you can not in any circmstance have an IFK inside the goal area. And every offence that results in a DFK inside the area is a penalty. No exceptions. I'm a level 3 referee, I have to know these things.
And to Nobby, which I meant to do earlier, no they haven't changed that rule.
Guinness. I'm interested in your definition of "goal area". If you mean the 18 yard box, then you can indeed have an IFK within it. 6 yard box, I'm not sure, and if that's the "goal area" you refer to then I'm willing to defer to your superior referees' knowledge.
