I played an ill-fated League of Wales game for 50 seasons or so, where I played with Port Talbot, TNS, and Oswestry with brief spells at a couple of others. The challenge is not just to do well domestically, but somehow make progress in Europe, which is a bloody nightmare for the first few seasons. The
update thread is here.
Basically as an LLMer you should avoid starting with either of the two Professional clubs, Barry Town or Total Network Solutions. After a few seasons they usually can offer better wages than the other clubs.
There's not much difference between the rest of the clubs, as the players level themselves out after a few seasons. Of the other teams, Aberystwyth, Llanelli, and Carmarthen get reasonably good attendances, whereas Rhayader and Caernarfon get the worst. (this is all in CM3 01/02 by the way)
My goal was to try and get the Welsh co-efficient in Europe up a bit, but I never got higher than 17th. The other CPU-controlled clubs usually do pretty crap and get knocked out straight away. I only ever got to the CL Group Stage 5 or 6 times in all those seasons, and at the start you enter in the 1st Qualifying Round which makes things more difficult. Once you get into the top 30 of the co-efficient you enter at the 2nd Qualifying Round.
At first you'll find most clubs won't let you pay more than £200p/w wages, which makes for an interesting challenge. You can eventually get your facilities and stadium improved, but it often takes a good few years of success domestically and in Europe. It is possible to attract some decent players, but usually only when they're rejects of other clubs....
I think a lot of people get bored of Wales because of the lack of relegation/promotion, but I quite like the idea of playing the same clubs every season, you see them develop over time (or not as the case may be) and some clubs go 15-20 years consistently being crap and in debt.
