TBH it does not grab me as much as CM3 did. There are no 20 season games in the Taipan household. Best I have done is a four season go which is now on hold due to apathy.
The multitude of EP's and having to start a new game every couple of season soured the game for me. Hopefully CM4 03/04, the game CM4 should of been will inspire a 20 season game for me.
My guess is to wait for 03/04 (and there are just couple of months to go). Why do so?
"Why #1": it's pretty soon. Though seing guys printing out EPs as maniacs it won't be a couple of months actually, but anyway.
"Why #2": considering high resource-consuming engine you won't (if you are not a person with 20 hours of spare time per day) get very far, or you'll do, but with less leagues running (and for me personally from some point i only run CM with all leagues running).
"Why #3": the thing is very promising. Seems like it will have many things that were missed from CM3.
"Why #4": never pay attention to anyone's opinion. It's your choice, and above are just my thoughts. Again, i myself would rather wait (and i probably do).
not because it's new, If the little things had been put on an 01/02 EP that would have done me.
there are lots of nice touches but the game could still be better, there need to be the option of a half time talk such as Peter Reid would give, and a few more board /managment options wouldn't go a miss.
But at the end of the day everyones opinion is personal. I've had a few 10 season games and lost each one to a computer error of some kind! frustrating but it's still the only game I've played since it's release.
I still personaly think that CM4 is a major crap! I've been playing for 3 seasons now in swedish Div 2 and many many times happened, that a direct free kick was taken from inside the penalty area, not to mention the offside problem. The training stuff has just ruined the fun in the game. Also the player gets upset and stays that way for 3 (perhaps even more) seasons!!!!???
I could go on...
Oh I almost forgot it takes about 10 mins to save a game on Pentium 3 866 Mhz with 512 MB RAM.
I played a game for about 10 seasons and I could not get my brave lads from Donny out of Div 1. After 8 seasons the game slowed to a crawl and it became basically unplayable.
BTW the board sacked me and I took the Preston N.E. job, but the magic is gone, along with my bloody patience.
CM 01/02 is but a hazy memory. </blasphemy>
CM4 requires a new approach, you can't just do the same you did before. It took me quite a while to figure out how to get the most out of it, the main reason being speed.
In CM4 you do NOT want to select as many leagues as possible, and you definitely do NOT want to select full detail for any of them. You also do NOT want to select the large database (the medium is still bigger than CM3's large db).
You will also have to unlearn some of your playing style because crucial elements like scouting and training are quite different.
