I have played with many lower league team in CM4 and there is one thing that I find a bit strange. Howcome there is so many players you can buy for £0 (free transfer) and many of them are really good! I wondered if it was because the selling clubs couldn't afford the players wages that they wanted to give him away or is it just a bug? Is this happening in EP5? (one just have to bid £0 on a player that cost say £10.000. The club comes back with an offer like £5.000 and £18.000 over the next months. One just bid £0 again and it is accepted - isn't that weird?)

I wanted to play as realistic as possible but it is a bit difficult negotiating the price if the club wants to give him away in the first place?

In the UK lots of players are moving clubs without a fee at the moment...

But the worst thing with buying players for £0 is when, after a reasonable scout report, you pay your £0 and succeed in buying your new "star", the news report says " ...... is looking forward to playing with players of a higher ability". You just know then, that you have made a huge mistake.

I figure they are just looking to unload salary or what they perceive as dead weight when they accept an offer of $0. Once I was offered a player on my shortlist who was worth $1K (the next lowest value) for a price of $1K. I offered back instead a player exchange of a player worth $2K (but in reality worthless...). The AI manager then counter offered a fee of $500K. So much for that deal...

I always find it's your stars who are getting paid the most dragging the club into debt, and no one else wants to pay their enflated salary.

Unfortunately the thing you described is indeed a bug. Whenever you uncheck the payment over time box but the amount is still there (grayed out) the computer fails to deduct that amount from the total sum so it thinks the payments are still part of the deal when in fact they aren't. Did that make sense?

Theoretically this allows you to buy any player for £0, not just the cheap ones. The way around is to always set the payments to 0 before you uncheck the box or to not uncheck it at all.
