You'd think an endorsement from such a high profile manager would bring Fat Goalie a trial at the very least with a Football League club.

Or maybe it did and they weren't impressed with him enough to even give him a friendly match to strut his stuff...

The one his missed when he came on as a sub against Spain - we needed to win to go through, and in the end we got a 0-0 draw and had to come home. Didn't loose a game in that World Cup and we were knocked out...

The game was a disgrace but it didn't need an agreement. Things like it still happen these days but the players are a little smarter and at least appear to be trying. It's just that nobody takes any kind of risk whatsoever which is just as boring.

Not exactly.

In 1982 the last matches of the group phase weren't scheduled at the same time. Since both Germany and Austria knew that Algeria had won 3-2 against Chile, a 1-0 win for Germany would bring them both into the next round.

So, after the 1-0 lead by Horst Hrubesch, both Germany and Austria went on to pass the ball to each other, showing less effort than in a warmup-training.
