Right, and a lot of people found it hard to believe that this 14-yr old American wonderkid turned down an offer from a major Serie A club (forgot which one). Yet it still happened.

I recall a few times where I still offered the contract and upped the bonuses when they "weren't interested in negotiating" and they accepted and joined, so it's never impossible.

I never said he wouldn't talk - he would and I offered him back up status. I'm not going to offer him squad rotation as he'll only get unhappy at playing about 3 games in the next 3 years. £5k would have put him amongst the lowest earners at the club, bar a couple of home grown youth.

He wouldn't even talk last night though. I'll try again at the end of the season.

Yeah but he's a kid so probably would have accepted Hot prospect, a big load of chocolate buttons as his sign on fee and and a 15% increase in the length of a Mars bar ever year. (Oh sh:t is that advertising?) maybe I should say snickers aswell just to balance it out. :eek:

Lower in the list, but not necessarily a worse status. Backup signifies a reserve for any first-teamers, whereas Hot Prospect indicates the intention of first-team football in the future. That's how I've always seen it anyway...could be wrong.
