Hampton and Richmond 2007/2008 BS South
The squad didn’t look good. They were out of shape and if I’m honest I had seen better football on a Sunday league pitch. So I wielded my axe.
A total of 17 players in (including 7 loans through out the season) spending 4k. 12 players departed for the total of 16k.
League: 4th – this was a complete shock and an absolute over achievement
Playoffs – Semi Finals – lost 6-4 on aggregate to Lewes
FA Cup –2nd qualifying round
FA Trophy – 3rd qualifying round
Setanta Shield – 4th round
Best Player – Pacey loanee – 31 games with 27 goals
Season review – Fairly good season, managed to get rid of some of the deadwood and started to steer the club in the right direction.
Hampton and Richmond 2008/2009 BS South
A total of 7 players leave the club this season (20k) with 10 new faces arriving including 5 loanees (0k). My main concern had been bulking up the defence with hope that conceding a few less would push us that little higher up the table.
League: 3rd – pleased with the position in a league that was dominated by the winners who ended up on 105 points!!!
Playoffs – Semi Finals – lost 6-1 on aggregate to AFC Wimbledon
FA Cup – 3rd qualifying round
FA Trophy – 3rd round
Setanta Shield – 5th round
Best Player – The same pacey loanee from last season who kindly returned for a second spell giving me a return of 45 goals in 47 games throughout the season.
Season Review - Better cup runs, better effort in the league, but again some the end of the season we fail miserably in the Playoffs. Bit of a kick in the stomach really. Oh well at least I have a solid foundation, just need to add depth.
Hampton and Richmond 2009/2010 BS South
11 in for that massive total of 0K (my board are the tightest) and 13 players out (0k), I think I ha cleared out the rest of the wasters.
Surely this was to be the season?! As it happened….. it wasn’t. On the 12th of September 2009 the board and I agreed it was best we parted ways. Picking up only 7 points from 8 games, the board and I were both bitterly disappointed with the direction the club was heading. I appealed for some cash to save this sinking ship that just had no goals in it. The squad had relied on a talented loanee for 2 years now and with him not returning that left a HUGE hole. With a lack of board support and ambition I decided maybe life in this part of London wasn’t for me and we went our separate ways.
League status before departure – Played 8 Won 2 Draws 1 Lost 5
Bedford Town 2009/2010 BS North
I joined newly promoted Bedford in October only a few weeks after leaving Hampton. I felt a weight of expectation lifted off my shoulders. I joined a new club, with new ambitions. The first job was to just get in some players, they had bare bones when I joined, even having to dive into the under 18s to have enough “decent” players on the pitch.
Won my first game 1-0, great start, maybe I’ve found a new home. This was the start of what became a torrid season.
A total of 15 players in (1k) and only 1 out (22k) that’s how thin the squad was.
League: 21st – relegation…. Such a shame, I loved this little club
FA Cup – 3rd qualifying round
FA Trophy – 3rd round
Setanta Shield – 2nd round
Best Player – Young converted striker – looked like our only hope all season with pace and strength supplying 22 goals in 46 games.
Season review - Winning only 8 games all year but my draw tally was what killed us. A total of 13, which left us 13 points behind safety come the end of season. This led me to relegation and of course, the sack. Time to go job-hunting again.
Altrincham 2010/2011 BS North
With huge squad and lack of overall quality some changed had to be made. In the end 17 players in (12k), 2 of them loanees and an amazing 33 players out (7k)
League: 14th – was content with this, first season was more to have the club running the way I felt it should be ran
FA Cup – 2nd qualifying round
FA Trophy – 1st round
Setanta Shield – 2nd round
Something tells me I’m not a cup manager!!!
Best Player – young striker 31 games 18 goals. I have high hopes for this kid.
Season Review – You have to walk before you can run….. we are barely even crawling but I feel things are going in the right direction. Maybe my “experience” at my previous clubs will pay off. Learnt some hard lessons at Bedford.
Altrincham 2011/2012 BS North
11 players in (0k) and 10 out (26k). My main focus had been to bring in someone to help with the goal scoring as last season we had the second lowest scored despite our good position.
League: 7th – missed out on playoffs on the last game of the season.
FA Cup – 2nd qualifying round
FA Trophy – 1st round
Setanta Shield – 2nd round
Best Player – young striker has got another year under his belt and learnt the art of finishing a bit more. 35 goals in 39 games was a very good return.
Season Review – very pleased with the progress made. I have a club with ambition and good support. They have set a 5 year plan for me to push into and stay in the BS Premier. I feel the love at this club. Bring on next year!!!!
