Now , before I present this idea , this isn’ t a complaint , and nor should it be put forward ahead of other ideas/problems that currently exist. However , I think that this idea will be a step forward in Football Management games for the future when implemented properly.
Anyway the idea. Well the whole thing with football management IRL is (normally , not always the case) former players who move onto management once they’ve retired from the game. However one thing that the game misses at the moment (And this isn’t a fault , just a statement) is what managers do before they actually become a manager. IE their playing career. Admittedly this is touched upon when choosing player reputation , however , this does only effect reputation , and how the fans perceive you. Anyway , the point is that the idea would be to utilise the advantage that having contacts who are in the game would give. Obviously contacts that were picked up during the managers playing career. Probably the best recent example of this is Roy Keane and his links with Sir Alex Ferguson.
The way that I would implement in the game would be quite different. This feature takes on two advantages from the players point of view. From requesting advice from people who they have worked with , and acquiring players from teams who their contacts work for. Obviously the advice thing would require a update in the way that players get problems , and how they are resolved – but this feature isn’t cumpolsorary.
Bringing in players is however probably slightly more important. Bringing in players (on loan) can be a lot to do with who you know. And knowing the manager of a club in a higher league could lead to a club being more likely to accept an offer (Much like the Parent Club feature does in the current game). However , another feature would be asking a contact whether he had any players that he would be willing to loan out , that would be likely to want to go. IE rather than being specific about a player , asking him if he could spare any.
Implementing this would be difficult. Obviously a players playing history would have to line up with managers history within the game (But this is already present – so that factor isn’t a problem). And a way of implementing it without gaining to unfair an advantage would have to be worked out.
Just wondering what people thought of this idea. As I said before , the introduction of new features shouldn’t be at the top of SI’s list at the moment. But I think this should ne a way in which Football Manager could go forward in the future. And once implemented properly , would be an excellent feature. I'm not trying to say that the method of aquiring players is wrong , and nor should this replace it - just be an enhancement to it.
