the important thing is this...the file named 'graphics' in the program files directory is what contains all the scriptig to run the graphics of the game... therefore it is important that there is no other file/directory with the same name inside that folder...

all post-installation files should be put in your mydocuments foler, then go into the game and in the options click 'reload skin after restart', and the skin will be loaded... then untick it again..

I get wat you mean now about conflicting file names, and will make sure there is nothing else called graphics.

I'l also do a clean uninstall as there must be some crap from previous install attempts still there.

Once i come to install it again, do i install in program files or my docs?

By post-installation files du mean extra skins etc i might've downloaded and want to use once my game installed? If so then ive not got any of that.

Also you say the bit about clicking options and reloading skin, but if i get the white screen i wont be able to do this, unless i dont get it this time.

try this:

1. uninstall the game completely.
2. remove ALL files relating to FM.
3. reinstall the game and patch it.
4. try run it and see if it works.. which it should if you have the correct specifications and your PC is well maintained.

NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO TOUCH THE PROGRAM FILES FOLDER OF FM2008 EVER AGAIN... EVER.

Now, regarding the post installation files (eg. skins, data updates, pictures, etc).

All of these 'extra' files should be inserted into your My documents FM2008 folder. There is a folder for each one and there is a very helpful thread explaining where each type goes. I cant rell you now cos i am at work and not on the computer i use to play.

If i remember correctly, for player pictures, you have to create a 'graphics' directory in your Mydocuments/fm2008 folder if it is not already there and then extract the files to that directory.

Once that is done, load up the game and see the preferences. Tick where it says 'reload skin upon restart', click confirm and the skin will be reloaded.

Then restart the program, go back to preferences, and untick it again.
You should be sorted after that.
