Altough i take pleasure from FM2008 and am generally pleased with the new features, there are some issues which i regard should be looked at for the new patch or atleast Fm2009.
I have seperated the problems into two categories of differing importance.
The first list regards problems i believe to be impacting the enjoyment of the game and in particular long term games (8+ seasons). Altough some might think there are more pressing matters, i believe that some of these problems make the game far too easy compared to the difficulty at the start of the game. Note that many of these points probably interact with each other.
1. AI transfer policy - Very often big clubs will not buy a single player despite that fact that they could do with improvement - in my current game - liverpool did not buy a single player for 3 seasons! this is liverpool im talking about (IRL they seem to buy 10 players every summer).
2. Big clubs rarely if ever buy young prospects - i am left to buy every young prospect(what there is of them)- they seem to prefer buying old players for lots more money (accepted that this probably down to poor regen development)
3. To easy to buy big prospects such as Lulinha and Banega - if your nottm forest in division 1 you could not buy players like these.
4. AI poor training - they dont seem to be able to maximise training like the human player can.
5. AI poor development - young players not given the chance for development ar AI teams (not getting first team run outs - bad training)
6. Game too easy in long term - the points above all make the game too easy in my opinion. I am currently in my 10th season with Nottm Forest - i have won the last 3 league titles and look like i should win the next - have won the league cup twice, fa cup twice, uefa cup once and champions league once in same period. My team is full of players in their mid and late twenties but with a handfull of good young players. Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool all rely on 29-32 year-old players which are nearly or already past their best, plus they have very little in terms of young players for replacements. I dread to imagine their teams in a couple of seasons, i realise i have got myself in a position where i am the dominant team but i dont even get a sniff of a challenge by the other big teams.
7. Regen starting CA too low (almost impossible to get wonderkids)- there needs to be far more variation.
8. Youth development soo slow - most players with high PA will never meet their potential until 28/29 if at all. I do accept that some players will never meet potential or will come of age late (leads on to next point) but most players should be near their potential (in terms of technique and physical) by their early twenties. Has been some good threads concerning this recently.
9. Variation in development and demise of players stats - old players demise is especially systematic. Experience does not seem to matter as much as it should in these circumstances
10. The physical attributes for regens are terrible compared to current players - the regens are either wrong or the current player are.
11. Too many shots/ too little goals - i feel this issue has been heavily discussed there i do not need to explain. I doubt this will be changed for the patch but i dont mind that much since the problem above are in my opinion far more important.
12. International manager dont set sacked for bad performance
13. Good players do not get called up to national team - might not seem that important but gives human players advantage when managing national sides.
14. Cant sell players who have played well - i had a player (schumacher) who ended up top goalscorer in the EPL (valued 6m), offered him out in summer yet could not get a penny for him. Also owned Lee Martin who won runner up in Players player of the year yet could only get 1.3m for him next season.
15. Good players at big clubs wont leave despite the fact that they dont play first team football and complain often, they even sign new contracts.
This second list contains what i believe to be problems that are more of an annoyance than a game flaw.
1. Club staff going to lesser clubs for smaller club roles and less wages.
2. Regens dont seem to suit the characteritcs of their nationalities e.g Brazilians forward always seem to be big target men rather than skillfull flair players (i could be wrong on this one).
3. Good regens dont seem to be realistically spread between nationalities, many of the worlds best players come from small places like the soloman islands, i dont think i have seen a single enlgish regen which could compete at the highest level. I can see the next few World Cups being a joke.
4. Ratings for midfield players does not really reflect reality
5. Fan confidence - fans dont know difference between experienced players and future prospects.
6. Board confidence - you cant be expected to get to final of every cup!
7. Some players do not get injured enough compared to reality (owen, dyer etc)
8. Dodgy default corners
9. Getting asked before matches about players you had on load (played 1 match) about 10 seasons ago.
10. Players constantly asking to be on and off the transfer list (make up your bloody mind). When they are on the transfer list via request, then they ask to be off but you dont want them, so you say no, then the next day they ask again, you say no again, the next day thes ask again, follwed by the day after and the day after that. Never got far after that, i just gave in and removed from transfer list, a week or two later they asked to be back on the list arrghhhhh.
There you go, i have probably forgotten a few but im sure other people will have pointed them out. Would appreciate any feedback or reassurances from SI
Yeah i love it how dyer started about 3 games in as many seasons for newcastle while gettin paid 90 grand a week or whatever, yet we managed to sell him to West Ham for 6m, and he got injured in his first game (i think?). Hilarious.
Probably the best piece of transfer buisness ever, that and selling Jenas to Tottenham for 7m, idiots.
I think two adjustments could fix a whole lot of the problems with board confidence.
1) Fan reactions to signings and feedback should be directly attributed to his squad status.
2) Cup expectations should be directly attributed to the draw. Obviously this is linked to drawing a much better team in the first round and the board being disappointed you didn't make the second, but also if I draw a team I should account for in the second round and lose, the board shouldn't be happy I met expectation. They should be upset I didn't make the third round.
Yeah, I think the majority of us are agreed that the current board confidence system is borderline abysmal. I remember a few seasons back when I was knocked out of the JPT and my board were HAPPY that I reached the 1st round -- I bloody started in that round! Things like that that narrows the line between realism and gaming. When I play a game I don't want to KNOW i'm playing a game if you catch my drift.
That transfer list point was a good one as well. Grates my arse when they constantly want to listed/taken off the list.
